Optimus2357Premium join:2010-11-21 West Warwick, RI kudos:1 | StarzPlay Silverlight plugin crashing I cant seem to get Starz Play to work on my desktop and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. First I am using
Windows 7 Pro 64bit Silverlight - Version: 5.1.10411.0 Chrome Version 25.0.1364.160 m Internet Explorer Version 9.0.8112.16421 (To isolate)
Problem: When I first went to »www.starzplay.com/ and I clicked on a movie to watch, it launched a window telling me I had to register. I typed in my cox.net email address and phone number (why do they need this?). That brought me to a progress bar that then re-directed me to idm.east.cox.net login screen. After logging in, it redirected me back to the Starzplay.com page. I am used to this, since its very similar to how HBO Go and the other premium online sites function. When go back to the site to play the movie, it seems to be trying to redirect me to login, detect I am already logged in, and then the Silverlight plugin crashes.
What I have Tried: First thing I did was try in IE and got the same results. Next I deleted all temp/cookies and made sure both Silverlight and my two browsers I was troubleshooting with were up to date. I rebooted, restarted modem and router, etc. I updated my AV(AVast 8.0.1483) and then later disabled it.
Next I tried on my Laptop, also Windows 7, to make sure it wasn't a issue with Starz Play and it worked fine in Chrome. What I did notice is right around the time my desktop plugin crashes, I get a prompt from Chrome asking me to Allow Flash. I thought maybe it was a Silverlight access issue on the Desktop, so went into Chrome;plugins and set it to always allow. I also made sure my Flash was up to date, set starzplay.com as a trusted location and deleted all temp flash data. I then uninstalled Silverlight and Re-installed it, and tested it on both Netflix and a bubble mark, no issues.
Can anyone think of anything else to try? I know its not a Cox issue, or even a Starz issue, but I would really like to get it to work on my desktop. Any ideas? |

 | Video drivers up to date? |
|
Optimus2357Premium join:2010-11-21 West Warwick, RI kudos:1 | Yes. ATI 5770(x2) running Display driver 9.12.0.0 which is current as per »support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/w···4.aspx#1
I also completely uninstalled Avast from my system, no change. Uninstalled Silverlight 5 and tried 4.1, no change.Deleted User > AppData > LocalLow > Microsoft > Silverlight, no change. Set IE Security settings to lowest possible, no change. Uninstall and re-install Flash, no change. Tried 32-bit IE, no change.
Next I tried looking at the problem itself. I found Its not playing a movie where it's crashing, but logging in itself. You can log into the site seperatly and Silverlight crashes even doing that. I am running out of ideas. Could be a GPU issue. Guess I will know when I get my new card (in a couple weeks). Seems like Starz should put "Play" back into Beta.

 | reply to Optimus2357 I clicked it and even though I don't have Starz it's asking for cox user name and password. Did you register? |

Optimus2357Premium join:2010-11-21 West Warwick, RI kudos:1 | Yes, I registered. And it works on my laptop so it isn't an account issue or anything. Anyone else have Starz and having issue? I think Anonguy had it by thinking its a GPU driver issue, I just can't figure out how to fix it. |
|
 | is the laptop running 32 or 64 bit? Are both IE's the same version, are you using 32 bit ie or 64 bit ie |
|
Optimus2357Premium join:2010-11-21 West Warwick, RI kudos:1 | Laptop Is Windows 7 Pro 64bit, which is the same as my Desktop. I have tried 32bit and 64bit of IE on both laptop and desktop. Both versions work on laptop, and neither work on desktop. Also I tried both integrated and dedicated GPU on laptop, both worked.
So both are using same browser, same plugin, same OS, same account login, removed AV. Could be a .NET Distro issue, could be a GPU driver issue.
I looked at how the page works again, and it seems it uses Silverlight to do some kind of security check, and then uses flash to load a Cox shell over the site. Sometimes it will randomly resume play back of last movie viewed..sometimes not. I went through my GPU settings and disabled all enhancements, no change. I tried at different resolutions, no change. Is anyone even using Starz Play? Is it just buggy on some machines? |
