[Exede] Need to take down my dish to get my house re-roofed...

We are getting ready to have a new roof put on our house, and need to take our dish down. When I called customer service they said they are going to charge me $95 to come take it down and another $95 to re-install it! That is nuts! So was wondering if it is easy to take down ourselves, and could we possible put it back up ourselves?

You could try, but do you really want to put holes in your brand new roofing? I suggest letting the roofers take it down, then consider re-installing it on a polemount in the yard somewhere. Less desirable - but still better than holes in the roof - is a vertical mount on the side of the house or chimney.

I usually find the roofers can take it down. Some don't have sense enough to remove the connectors or cut them off and leave the dish dangling from the roof, the ones that put them back up cause more trouble than its worth by, using the wrong screws, putting it on metal roofs, putting the original screws back in the same holes (they don't tighten up well in the original holes) and improperly sealing the new roof.

If you have it reinstalled on a pole mount be prepared to buy a pole and concrete from the installer as well as additional labor. Most installers are being robbed before they get there, speaking from experience.

You can take the dish down yourself, but reinstalling it and especially aligning it is the part that probably needs an installer.
