 | Verizon Business Questions Considering I am trying to set up a home web server and game server I am in need of a static ip address especially since the server will be sending outbound registration emails. I would like to know what are the costs of transitioning my current residential account with current services over to a business account? According to the website business Fios appears to cost the same as it does for residential customers. Do all business accounts come with a static ip address? What is the cost if I would like to purchase more than one ip address?
Is there any way to get the Verizon website to recognize my address or log in to the business class portion of Verizon.net using my current login? Verizon is currently closed but if I could get the website to recognize my address I could get this done today rather than waiting until Monday. -- My Website: »www.xtemu.com My Speedtest: »www.speedtest.net/result/1218984197.png

Actual performance seems identical. I have been a business Internet customer for 3+ years and a residential TV for about 2. You didn't use to be able to bundle "normal" tv with business Internet like you can now. |

Wow I never knew they fixed that to allow residential TV on business internet. Thanks for the heads up, been on business TV/internet since 2008. |

I haven't actually done it yet so I can't say for 100% it works but it is listed as option now (and for last 6 months maybe). However it is Business TV, but it appears the packages / bundles are exactly the same as residential TV. I still have one box but two Verizon accounts that share the fiber, one for B Int and the other Res TV. |

It was a pretty big issue for a while, but we see quite a few of these installs now, especially for home businesses. -- Message Of The Day Error 500: |

You might have 1 phone line for residential and your video service residential and then have 1 phone line for your business and a static ip for your business... All sharing he same ONT. -- Message Of The Day Error 500: |

 | reply to Xtreme2damax If folks accessing your game server can enter in a domain name instead of an IP address (i.e. xtemu.com instead of 100.200.100.200), then all you need to do is set up a dynamic DNS service (possibly from your domain registrar, or any free or paid one), and send out emails via relay through Verizon's email server (properly set up, it will look like your emails are sent out from your server). If you do it this way, you will be able to keep your current dynamic IP residential FIOS service and won't need to get a business account. |

Game-servers are the type of thing where a static IP is usually very necessary.
With the way they work (with a centralized master server that receives info from all the servers and sends it as a list to the clients so they can get a server list) DNS is almost never involved. Because of this when people add a server to their favorites its pretty much always by IP address so if you want your server to stay on their favorites you need a static IP.
The cheapest package to add a static IP on (atleast in california) is the 150/65 as its only $15. It ranged from $15 -> $45 for one static IP depending on what plan (speed package) you chose. -- 300/150 mbit Bonded Verizon FiOS connection FTW! |
