I think it's a good experience, like CEOs who will spend a day working in the call center ever so often, or in your case, lifting heavy servers in the datacenter :P

no.. I'm more of a Mr. fix it.. I just have the knack for understanding things and making them go.

Everything I've learned was through experience.. buying the equipment.. then learning how to use it. Schooling wise I'm a Mechanical Engineering grad from Ottawa U.

The Nexus aren't the biggest things Cisco does. I used to work on the CRS and those things are huge, a fully configured CRS-3 linecard chassis is 1600lbs and draws 18kW. For the first few sales, Cisco would send a team to measure the doorways, check the floor strength and power and cooling before they would ship the chassis. The really crazy stuff starts when you run multi-chassis and have 2 (or more) of those linecard chassis connected to a similar sized fabric card chassis.

I know Bell has some CRS because they came and looked around our lab here in Ottawa but I don't know how many or what config

Edit: This was supposed to be a reply to Marc. Apparently I fat fingered the wrong reply button on my phone.

Always nice to meet a fellow mech. I'm a mechanical engineering grad from U of Waterloo.

I used to work at a data center about 15 years ago. Those videos bring back some memories. Thanks Marc.

Hey that's me in those videos

About the screws: That's what happens when you work around the clock for a whole week

And also about the CRS...yes I know, in fact there is a CRS just two cages away from ours.

We don't plan on using those Ciscos in production just yet, there's probably another few weeks worth of work to do. we first want to make sure everything works as it should before moving users that depend on their internet on it.

The maintenance this week involved installing those Ciscos, upgrading our MX gear, installing a new MX, moving power around and servers around. We've been busy. Can't wait for all this shiny new gear to be in production

kidding aside though, crawling underneath the raised floor is NO FUN

Insane amount of airflow, extremely tight space, shards of broken crap all over underneath the floor and lets not forget surrounded by dozens of power cords that all carry 20-30A @208v
