Re: Maintenance Email

said by mwilson:

I also did not get an email regarding the outage. From what I could tell, my DSL was down until almost 7:30am this morning.

Not sure if it's related to the cable stuff going on. But, Teksavvy had a message on their service line that there were DSL authentication problems this morning. So, I think it was a problem, not a scheduled outage.

If it's a scheduled outage, then not a big issue, but we'd appreciate a notice email first.

yeah sorry guys. not sure why it didn't go out to everybody.. seems we thought it would only affect cable.

having spoken to gabe and being in Toronto too but not there last night. i believe the radius servers had to be moved and I'm assuming they just didn't come back up properly and nobody noticed it until this morning.

really sorry gang.

What changes are in store for Bell's side of things? Have they replied as to 10gig interfaces yet for AGAS Links?

no changes on the bell side...

this is why we only notified cable subs.

the radius change was as a result of an unexpected power bar situation... the power plug could not be removed without taking it appart.. the knuckle was too big to fit through the floor board...

Could you explain this floorboard issue in simpler terms for us non-technically inclined readers.........

Could you explain this floorboard issue in simpler terms for us non-technically inclined readers.........

it's a raised floor cooling system.. the cold air come up through the floor.. the power is also fed from under the floor...

so to get to the power they make holes where you feed the power cords...

the plugs are 30am 208 lock plugs... the ones you push in and twist so they can't come out...

so to move things around to make space for the new switches.. we have to move those power cords... the expectation was that we could just take one plug out.. swing it over.. then do the same for the redundant plug... but once the knuckle didn't fit.. it meant taking apart the actual plug and exposing wires... so obviously you cant work on live wires so we have to shut everything down that was on that power distribution unit.. take it all apart.. move it.. put it back together.. and light up everything that was plugged into it....

all of this just to make space for the new cisco's...

i'll post some vids a bit later tonight.

This openness and transparency is what makes Teksavvy great. Thanks for the updates Marc!

Just for the record, for the naive people out there, that graph is completely fake. I mean, probably not completely fake, probably something that happened two years ago, with a new date stuck on it.

The problem happened between 2am-8am typical maintenance window, not at 6pm.

(edit: okay, so it is really Tuesdays graph. It doesn't correlate to the work Teksavvy is doing though. I wonder what happened )

That happened to me, I re-downloaded it and it worked fine.
Youtube would be nice, even if you set it to private so the videos are non searchable and you can only get there with the link

Yea, that is some kickass looking hardware. Buying the parts and building your own rig is always the best part of the whole experience. It's all down hill from there. Wouldn't I love to have a $10,000 mobo to build on.
