| Slowness in the lower east side, NYCFor the past few days, my download could only max out ~9Mbps, upload is fine at ~38Mbps. It doesn't matter what time of the day it is. My download used to be ~84Mbps. Anyone else notice their download speed decreased drastically?
Here's the traceroute, latency is also higher than normal.

 | Verizon's internal network is overloaded, I don't know how much you can do about that or even get Verizon to admit it. |

| reply to Bytezboy I'm having the same issues. I live near Union Square in Manhattan. D/L speed is around 4mb/s - I usually get around 58mb/s. Uploads aren't affected.
This is highly unusual. Not sure how long it's been going on, but I started noticing it early today. Verizon FiOS reliability has really gone south in 2013. |

Edit: my IP also changed. -- 75/35 Fios, Triple Play Extreme. |

| reply to Bytezboy I called Verizon to complain, and spent 40 minutes talking to their tech (very unpleasant techs, btw). They claimed they didn't have any open reports of technical issues, and refused to add a trouble ticket unless I would go through some mindless "troubleshooting techniques" the tech read from her script. I said "enough is enough" when the tech wanted me to factory reset everything because the script told her to do so. Sometimes I feel Verizon hires mindless high school drop outs to man the help desk at late night.
Thankfully this morning the problem seems to be fixed. I like FiOS when it works, but it's been flaking out way too often the past two months. |

 | reply to Bytezboy Still slow in the City Hall area. |

 | reply to Bytezboy Nothing changed here. |

 | reply to Bytezboy Slow as molasses (at night) past 2-3 days around Union Square (15th street) in Manhattan. WTF Verizon. I have 75/35 and used to get 84Mbps speed test, now getting 2-3mbps tops. Youtube is unusable. |

Youtube is unusable. I'm in alphabet city, about 20 minutes walk from union square and have the same experience. This is starting to get ridiculous, even websites take noticeably longer to load now. The pings are almost 20ms higher than normal. -- 75/35 Fios, Triple Play Extreme. |

SG79 join:2009-05-27 New York, NY | reply to Bytezboy I'm noticing EVERY NIGHT around 7-8ish, the speeds drop from 55mbps to 9Mbps. Enough is enough.
I'm actually going to put my money where my mouth is - Switching to RCN in 2 weeks. |
|
 | Are you sure you're not going to see the same kind of evening slowdowns on RCN? |

There is a problem with a core router that is causing the slowdowns, and it is only happening during the evening hours. Give it a few more days to get fixed.... |

Isn't this a separate company though, and not tied to FIOS at all? |
|
SG79 join:2009-05-27 New York, NY | Technically it is a separate company (45% owned by Vodafone). VZW also runs on an entirely different backbone and is separate from FiOS. In NYC, VZW uses Level 3. FiOS uses Verizon's backbone (Alter.net) |
|
 | reply to nycdave Really glad to see that VZ is aware of this and working on it. My faith in FIOS is (almost) restored! |

It happens in the morning as well, ran a speedtest right before I go to work the last 4-5 days to verify. The Verizon truck downstairs my building has been there ever since the weekend. -- 75/35 Fios, Triple Play Extreme. |
