[HN9000] If I already have hn9000, why "upgrade" to ge

I have been with hughesnet for 3-4 years now. It works for the most part, and living in the sticks is my only option. I have been having more outages than usual lately, so in trying to work it out I was talked into upgrading to the gen 4 program which they said would help.

Ive been reading, and Im not sure this is a good idea. I already get downloads of 6-10, my uploads arent so good, .1-.2. I rarely upload so it isnt a big deal I dont think.

After hearing some horror stories of people getting only 1-2 with the gen4 I am worried I am making a mistake.

In wtching hulu and netflix we regualrly go over our daily limit, but its not nearly as big of a deal as going over the monthly under the new gen4 plan

I already am running a hn9000 modem, and have had it for the 3 years I have been a customer. The installer is going to be here tomorrow afternoon, do I let him upgrade me or should I just leave well enough alone and deal with the 5-120 minute outages I get every couple of days?

Thanks for any insight

I think you're confusing Kbps with Mbps. HN9000 customers get Kbps speed (6-10 in your case), Gen4 customers get Mbps speed. So even those complaining about 1-2 Mbps are still getting speeds twice as fast as yours.

The HN9000 antenna pointing is comparatively more difficult than is the HT1000 (Gen4). If the HN9000 antenna gets pushed out of alignment for whatever reason, it can result in reduced speeds (caused by too many retransmissions). Getting it realigned pretty much demands the services of an installer and his specialty equipment. Not so with the HT1000. In the even of a misaligned dish, tech savvy customers should have no problem optimizing the pointing angles with a smart phone or tablet.

If I were you, I'd avoid the upgrade to G4 unless you really need the download speed. I'm getting 3min to 9MB, mostly on the high side, however there is usually a 5 to 10 minute wait for the internet link to start if you haven't been using hughes for a few hours. It's unacceptable to me, I should have tried the Verizon Home Fusion, but I just wasn't sure it was available at my location even if they say it is. No installation charges, much lower latency numbers same monthly charge same speed.

I don't know what you're trying to describe here. Please elaborate.

Why did you wait until the 11th hour ?
Mess up the installers time.

I have the 9000 still and Exede for a year already so I know.
Simple answer you nuts to upgrade to Gen4.

You are aware NO 30 day return policy, another 2 year commitment.
Haven't you heard their cry's ?

Thx for the replies all.

Well the guy came out and talked me through my concerns, so I let him proceed with the gen4 install.

It is a definite improvement over the 9000 in my case. Not huge, but for someone who is right on the edge of being able to do many things that little bit means a lot.

During prime time last night we were watching netflix on the TV, and zynga poker on the comp without a flinch. That has never been physically possible with the 9000 any time of the day without making one or both hang.

Hope it remains this way. Cant speak yet as to the monthly usage, as it keeps resetting to 100% every few hours, which I have read is how it is right now for many.

Most people report that things work well until day 31 or 32.
Also reports are for a few days at least usage is not counted or refilled allowing new users to get everything updated.

Are you aware that uploads now count against your usage ?

Grech, how do you feel after using it for a few more days? I have never been able to stream Netflix on my 9000, can you with Gen4?
Scheduled the upgrade for this week but having 2nd thoughts...
