Re: [HD] BeIN Sports - Coming this month

I was watching Arsenal as well when Fox Soccer - 584 switched to BeIN. However, this was not specific to FiOS. I talked to other friends watching on other cable networks and it appears that it was Fox Soccer that switched, not FiOS.

That's what we would all like to be know. I thought April 15th was the day we finally get BeIN sport here in NJ. What is going on lol I already subscribed to the sports pass. And the representative couldn't even give me a date. What gives huh?

Today is the MPEG4 channel transition of the 20 or so channels that were talked about earlier.

I believe tomorrow, the 16th, we in VHO7 are suppose to get that channel. And more HDs to come, hopefully sooner than later. Like TV GUIDE HD , that the rest of the VHOs have... etc. IMHO

They said on or after April 15th in the notification. So if they said BeIN is now the 18th, the channels have to be transitioned on the 17th at the latest.

In VHO8 I'm getting an update to the channel map adding BeIN Sport HD on 598 and BeIN Sport en Espanol HD on 1538. 598 is on 861 MHz and 1538 is on 681 MHz for those keeping track of QAMs.

Congrats Zero!

I've read some posts saying the HD quality is garbage - VZ might want to look into it. I've seen the HD feed on DirecTV at bars and it's looked stellar...

BeIN is one of the best looking channels on Directv. I can't say I'm all that surprised it looks like crap on Verizon. Some things never change.

Haven't seen this reported in here, so I'll report it. The channel is live in VH08. No programming data yet, but when I tune directly into the channel, it's coming up. Can't say anything yet about the PQ because so far I'm only seeing highlights from past matches, and that appears to be in SD.

Update - Ok the last program ended, and I'm seeing promos in HD. Not sure what everyone is complaining about. I think the HD looks pretty darn good.

Yup, I'm in VHO8 and it's on. I think the picture looks great as well.

What things would those be? The Fios service may have a lot of flaws but PQ has never been one of them. Especially when compared to DirecTV.

I've had both services and Directv PQ blows away Verizon. I was really surprised at how bad some of the channels looked. I primarily watch sports so those channels really stuck out. The local NBC affiliate (WHDH), the local Comcast RSN and NESN were all just a jumbled macroblocking mess. Fox Soccer PQ was ok when the video wasn't stuttering and the audio wasn't dropping out every couple minutes. The Verizon techs that came out to my house played with the lines and replaced the boxes. Eventually they said there was nothing they could do and that was how the channels were supposed to look. After a few months of dealing with the Verizon bullshit I gave up switched back to D* and they paid my ETF. Haven't had a single issue with any of those channels since.

Well, that's not normal. Pixellating... stuttering... none of that is what you should be seeing. Sounds like you got a crappy tech. I've had both services too, and while DirecTV's HD is very nice, I think FiOS has always edged them out in PQ.

I'm a big FiOS supporter and am happy for the most part, but I do not think FiOS has superior PQ to Cox here.

The Comcast/NBC Universal stations are just plain awful on FiOS, they look great on Cox.

The odd thing is that here, the locals are great, but the nationals just don't look very good to me anymore, definitely not better than the competition.

LOL...crappy tech? I think I had 4 different crappy techs come out to my house in the 5 months I had Verizon. Several of my friends had similar PQ issues. It wasn't just me.

All I can say is that what you saw isn't normal. The fact that a tech told you that such crappy PQ is normal, to me, indicates a crappy tech. If your neighbors had the same issue, then the problem is likely due to a local issue. There was a thread, some time ago, where someone on here noticed something similar. The problem was the node that fed his neighborhood. Verizon fixed that issue, and all was good in that area.

As for a response to kes - I never said that FiOS had superior PQ to every provider. I think they have the best in this area, for sure. And yes, I think they're superior to DirecTV. To each his own.
