Re: Post info here about speed upgrades predicted/not here yet Hmm.. I wonder what performance we're getting. 20/4 or 25/5. Commecial is saying up to 60% or so increase here, but i haven't seen anything official in my area. |

Seeing those in the Seattle area finally getting speed bumps. I'm on a grandfathered Ultra tier (30/5 approx). I reboot my modem and it appears to have downloaded a new config file, but no change to my speeds. Anyone have any ideas?

| you said it best..grandfathered on a tier they no longer offer. I doubt they will increase the speed for ultra. You would be much better off "downgrading" to BLAST and get the 50/10 increase.
BTW you didn't get a new config file...you got a firmware update for the modem. |

Bill for March | Bill for April |
I think the change to drop Powerboost from my area is coming soon, as can be seen in the Internet Services section of my bill.
The first picture comes from my bill for service from March 2, 2013 to April 1, 2013. As you can see by the red arrow, the bill has the words "Includes Powerboost".
Now, on my new bill for service from April 2, 2013 to May 1, 2013, the words "Include Powerboost" have been replaced with "Internet Service".
Going by this, I would make the assumption that sometime on or after April 2, if I reboot my cable modem, I should see the powerboost part of my speed package be removed. I of course don't have an exact date, but going by my bill, I would think it would happen sometime after April 2nd.
So, just wanted to pass this along.

Was it a new one? Don't know.
Did he get a firmware update forcing a config file download? Possibly. I don't recall if the SB log keeps track of firmware downloads/versions or it only shows the version elsewhere along with Build Date, S/N, MAC, etc(on the configuration tab?).

3 edits | When they push a firmware update they use the config file to identify that the correct file is pushed to the right modem.
If you see it says SW download VIA (by the way of) the config file.
It's like I drive VIA my car to get somewhere.. I don't get a new car everytime I drive..lol |

He did, however, get a 'new' config file since at least SwUpgradeFilename was changed from the previous config file/template.......... -- one should not increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything |

Vancouver, WA Yup, getting it here a little early in Vancouver, WA as well!
Originally on the 16/2 tier and speedtest is showing 25/4. Traffic shaper is still showing PB on for the download though reporting roughly 22Mbps, and normal big file tests back up an actual 20Mbps downstream, not 22 or 25, consistent. Upload is showing unshaped and a consistent 4Mbps+.

No CC email notification yet, nor a speed increase... I was resetting the modem every two days in hope.
After reading of problems OP are having AFTER the 'upgrade', I think I'll just chill awhile and pray my modem doesn't reboot by accident. |

Spoke with a representative in Shaumburg, IL today. Confirmed that Chicago markets will be seeing 305 speeds by Q3. No official date or pricing, but it's in the works. |

Re: Post info here about speed upgrades predicted/not here yet FWIW, and it may not be worth a damned thing....I'm switching from business class to residential at my house. Got signed up through a referral from my business rep at Extreme 105 for $89 per month, and sales has told me twice now the new speeds will roll out on April 17th and I'll be upgraded to 205/xx when that happens. I'll believe it when I see it, but 205 down for $90 per month would be sweet. Getting installed Friday morning, so I'll have the 30 day window to drop it if it doesn't come through. |

Rebooted my modem and my router last night, and no change here yet either. I'm on Performance, so the "change" that I'm looking for is the removal of Power Boost, and my actual speeds to be either 20/5 or 25/5 (I keep seeing different reports of what Performance will be once PB is removed). My latest ShaperProbe is below. As you can see, it still detects PB on both the upstream and downstream. DiffProbe release. January 2012. Build 1008.
Shaper Detection Module.
Connected to server 38.102.0.87.
Estimating capacity:
Upstream: 4263 Kbps.
Downstream: 22710 Kbps.
The measurement will take upto 2.5 minutes. Please wait.
Checking for traffic shapers:
Upstream: Burst size: 4511-4581 KB;
Shaping rate: 2128 Kbps.
Downstream: Burst size: 9778-10135 KB;
Shaping rate: 15941 Kbps.

Anybody know if Business Class will get an Upgrade also?
I currently have the 50/10 Business Plan Looking for more due to the IPSEC Tunnel.
Thanks Brian |

Just out of curiosity, aside from the justifiable bragging rights, what does 205 down get you? None of the more mainstream commercial servers will send more than about 5% of that at best. I suppose if you had 9 roommates, you could all watch different HD streams at the same time. Other than that?
You'd have to take a good look at your router. Aside from the obvious wireless throughput limitations, the LAN-WAN interface can be a bottleneck on the cheaper can be an issue. |
|
rmdir join:2003-03-13 Chicago, IL | Will have to wait and see. Since it's less costly than my 27/7 business plan, if it at least hits those speeds I'm still ahead. |

Does CC increase the speed of their tiers every year? How often do they do this? |

A most recent example was the current round of upgrades going on over the last few months and still ongoing.
These upgrades happened in the NE almost a year ago. |

Pay for Comcast 50/10 residential, West Palm Beach FL. I got all mad when my internet died late Sunday night. Rather then call and ask what was going on, I decided to go to sleep and woke up to this:

rmdir join:2003-03-13 Chicago, IL | I was told by my sales person who I was referred to by our business rep the upgrade is to come on the 17th. I don't know if that's regional or nationwide. Take it with a grain of salt-I can't vouch for her level of knowledge as she's new to me. OTOH, she's higher up the Comcast food chain than the idiots you get when you call in, so she may have better intel. |

Got an email in the comcast.net account yesterday saying speed had been increased, power reset modem and router to see the difference. I ran a speedtest and got ~25 down ~4 up consistently to several servers. Rebooted the modem/router as instructed in the email, now all speedtests cap at exactly 22 down and 4.5 up. Powerboost is definitely gone, I downloaded the latest ubuntu iso from a local mirror at 2.6 MB/sec from start to finish, before it would have started at 2.1 and evened out at 1.7 or so. Feel bad for the majority of people who don't even know they have a comcast/xfinity email address...
