 | [Need Info] March Madness online & RCN The 2013 March Maddness App will require users to log in with their cable provider info to access all content:
said by ... :NCAA March Madness Live® will provide an unlimited viewing experience throughout Turner Sports and CBS Sports' coverage of the entire tournament. Fans will have access to all games on TNT, TBS and truTV on the digital device of their choice, by logging in with their TV service provider information, and all games broadcast on CBS with no registration required. Is RCN one of TB service providers? What login information are they referring to?
Related: any plans to for RCN to participate in Watch ESPN? In comparing service providers, RCN seems to falling farther and farther behind in these kind of cross-platform offerings.
Thanks! |

 | If I remember correctly, RCN customers had access to the March Madness live streaming content last year.
I've also been waiting for WatchESPN access as an RCN customer. An insert in my cable bill late last year promised expanded online "TV everywhere" access to RCN programming in 2013. Hopefully that includes WatchESPN, as well as the forthcoming streaming offering from Fox Sports. |

 | reply to JuanPablo Let me add that I'm disappointed RCN isn't supporting authentication to watch World Baseball Classic games, too. |
|
1 edit | I am concerned with this too. Its a new system this year. I already contacted RCN on Twitter and here is the response I received:
"Good morning, not sure at this time but I will send your request to our marketing department."
If a CSR isn't aware of this yet, it doesn't bode well for us RCN customers.... |
|
 | reply to JuanPablo I remember that last year, authentication with RCN for the March Madness Live package wasn't set up until the very last minute. |
|
 | reply to JuanPablo The app just came out, and RCN isn't listed among the participating providers.

Hope this changes... |
|
 | This is bad bad news.... I am extremely disappointed |

|
 | reply to JuanPablo Looks like it will only be available on computers connected to RCN Internet service, and not on the mobile apps: »www.rcn.com/tournament-feeds |

The games are available to "Season Pass" them, but the second round has too many overlapping games even for my Quad. I will have to pick and choose. Third and further rounds should be OK. |

| reply to JuanPablo Not to boast.... but.... I'm SO glad I switched our business to RCN as our main browsing provider. Looks like i'll be able to watch here at work and when i'm at home. Being on the mobile app doesn't disappoint me, I'd rather watch on my TV or computer honestly. I can understand though where having the mobile app would be in handy if you travel.
Would logmein work or would the video be too choppy? |
|
 | reply to JuanPablo Did you notice the language? It says "All the games that appear on TBS, TNT and TruTV will be available on your laptop or desktop computer."
Does this mean that the CBS games are available for whether you have a login or not? Why is this access to the NCAA Tourney being kept so quiet? I haven't seen it mentioned on social media yet and its not on the main section of the site |
|
 | I'm pretty sure the CBS games are freely available to anybody, without authenticating your cable account. |
|
 | reply to vpmckeev Yes, the CBS games will be free. Also, I read that you will be able to use the tablet version for up to 4 hours without logging in.
I would like to know RCN's reason for not giving access to the tablet version. There are dozens of cable providers ranging from the largest to smallest cable providers in the listing. This is not the case of some of the other streaming services that only have a handful of cable providers signed up. Seems odd that such a large service like RCN would be left off that list. |
|
 | reply to machpost That page is gone, did it say anything else of note? |
|
 | reply to JuanPablo Looks like RCN is one of the few cable providers not participating
From their Facebook page:
quote: Well, basketball fans -- today's the day! The NCAA Men's Basketball March Madness starts TONIGHT! Who will you be rooting for?
All games will be broadcast on TNT We Know Drama, TBS Very Funny, CBS, and truTV. For mobile and broadband viewing, receive 4 FREE hours of live broadband streaming per device on the NCAA March Madness® site (»ncaa.com/marchmadness), the CBS Sports Network site, and all Turner Network Affiliates websites (TNT, TBS, truTV). After viewing content for 4hrs on a specific device - this may be across multiple days or sessions - the service will expire. Access the NCAA March Madness service (via App or Web) and watch any game of your choosing!

 | Wow, I am not gonna lie I am pretty ticked off at this. I subscribed to RCN over TWC and Verizon in my NYC apartment 5 years ago mostly because RCN offered ESPN360 (now ESPN3) and some other great sports options not available through TWC and Verizon. Now they have still not gotten the WatchESPN application, the Big Ten Network and this NCAA March Madness package is not available. Why the Big Ten Network is still not available baffles me. Other markets have access to it. |
|
1 edit | I am still very frustrated with RCN. I would love an explanation, even if its just that CBS was charging them too much for the package. I was under the impression that as long as you had a digital cable subscription you were fine. |
|
 | reply to JuanPablo +1 on disappointment. (Actually, plus much more than 1.)
Switched from Comcast and saving quite a bit of money every month, but not having access to WatchESPN and March Madness Live feels pretty ridiculous given the other providers on the list.
Maybe I should've waited until mid-April to switch!

 | reply to JuanPablo Adding to the chorus here, it's pretty silly that RCN is one of the very few providers not to offer March Madness Live, yet it still boasts on its facebook page about the four free hours of games, to which everyone has access. RCN has been slowly losing ground to Comcast over the availability of live sports, and is now completely blown away by others' online offerings. WatchESPN alone is tempting this twelve-year customer to switch. |
|
 | I'm a long time customer who reluctantly switched providers based on this.
Not participating in March Madness Live (the only major cable company not doing so?) is a pretty good indication RCN isn't getting WatchESPN any time in the near future. |
