Re: Most / Least favourite home improvement task?

I can't stand drywall & painting so I hire them out. I hate doing insulation as well but it's just not cost effective to hire that out so of the things I do insulation is the worst.

Nothing I would consider I like. I'd prefer to do anything entertaining over home improvements. I do home improvement stuff because it needs to get done. It's nice to see a finished project it's just doing it sucks. If money were no object I'd never do another home improvement project myself again.

Least favorite: Prep work
Most favorite: the actual build work

I have found I don't mind breaking my back building stuff, fixing stuff, painting stuff, etc. But the prep-work annoys the hell out of me. It ends up being a lot of work just to make things look worse. Immediately following that, my least favorite is anything that requires I crawl around in a cramped, hot attic filled with fiberglass insulation. Mostly because I always forget to wear proper attire and end up itching for a week after.

I'm trying to do it now.

Most favourite: electrical. I'm actually not an electrician but the stuff I can legally do I really enjoy. I wired my home with cat5e recently and now enjoy gigabit ethernet in most rooms. According to network statistics I did a pretty good job.

Least favourite: remediation of things like mold and pet urine. The person who lived in this house before us didn't take good care of the place, to say the least. I'm good at it now, but still hate it.

Cleaning up. Just standard regular cleaning. I'm not joking.

Is cleaning considered a Home Improvement task these days?

Don't do any cleaning in or at your home for a couple of years and then ask yourself that question!

It's home destruction if you don't do it.

CDRU, I would counter that home repairs are actually improving your current situation. Plus there are tons of repair threads here.

Most favorite-landscaping and outside building. Makes me get dirty and a huge sense of accomplishment.

Least favorite-prepping to paint. Would rather pull out my short and curries one by one.

Least favorite: Battling with roots (in storm drains, around my spa, keeping them away from cement)
Second least favorite: Bath caulking
Third least favorite: Anything that involves the gymnastics required to crawl deep into my attic.

Most favorite: Home automation
Honorable mention: Landscape irrigation. As with GadgetRme, it's hard to explain, but it's a strangely satisfying challenge to figure out how to optimize and automate the water delivery. I suppose this is another facet of home automation.

Most satisfying: A successful repair to the spa heater. Owning a 15 year old in-ground spa is much like owning a project car that you are constantly repairing, but getting to enjoy the results of.

Latest least favorite: digging up and replacing sections of teracotta sewer.

Rather tinker with electrical and networking.
