Re: Recommend cheap 24 port managed gigabit switch

)just like how the new HPs are 3Com based).

Just to be clear ... 3com is HP. Some of the switches are still using 'legacy' ProCurve software and ASICs, and some are using 'legacy' 3Com software and ASICs. But either way, they're all one big happy family.

Except for my ActionTec FiOS router, My entire home LAN is HP - I have an 1810G and some V1410's and even an old 408. Bulletproof.

Another vote here for HP.

Never had a dead one and we have 30+ 24/48port.

We are still in the process of replacing some legacy Cisco with new HP networking.

You can get a cheap HP V1910-24G for less then $400 new.

Actually I was referring to a revision 2 of the 1810 that was rumored to be 3Com based. I know most others should be the original HP design (or original 3Com design but those wouldn't carry the ProCurve name) but any new models since 2010-2011 or so could go either way.

If the netgear is one of those "web only" stay away.

I've had and used every powerconnect switch you've listed there. Only issue I ran into was with a 6224 where a specific SNMP query would lock up the management interface.

My issue with the powerconnect is that they are not standardized across the line. The CLI is slightly different for each one.

I'm curious as to those who say they are garbage - what are your reasons? I have an 8024 that pushes a significant amount of traffic and works great. It's not my Force 10 S4810 (48 10GB ports, four 40GB or 1610GB) but all the switches I've used do work.

In my case, I am replacing an HP ProCurve with a web-only Netgear. Even though the HP is a much better switch, the cooling fan makes it unsuitable for the intended location. The Netgear is totally silent, since it has no fans.

With any luck, I will be able to sell the HP switch (on Craigslist), so that I can use the money to pay for the Netgear.

I have 5 netgear FS726T's running for hundreds of days each. It's not the best switch out there but for my purposes they've been highly reliable. I also find them fairly simple to setup. but since they've treated me well, I've migrated all my switches to them for consistency.

I have an 2708 but haven't really used it all that much. Have a 2608 unmanaged which has served me well.

I'd go procurve, I've heard nothing but good things about them.
