How to skip westell 7500 setup

I'm trying to use my 7500 westell as a wireless router on my cable modem. I got it to connect with my tablet and other wireless devices except my computer and nothing a tried worked so I decided to try and reset the modem to factory. Well now I can't even get into the main menu. It keeps wanting me to connect with a dsl line before it will let me go into setup. Is there any way to bypass this?

Several of us have ran into that issue. I don't recall anyway around it. Connect it to hour DSL then remove it, put your original modem back in place and set the 7500 up as an AP.

So if I don't have dsl, I cannot get around it?

I was under impression you had DSL. Try connecting the 7500 to your current router per the Versalink instructions in the manual, section 6.1.3. The manual is available from the Verizon web site. This should resolve your problem.

Well I can connect though the internet wired but I believe its just porting me the internet bc i cannot connect to the westell page when the internet is working. I was going to try to connect through wireless because it's enabled by default (I guess) but it wont take any of the default passwords, ie; password, admin.

If memory serves me correct that default was admin admin or admin password. Also the default IP is 192.168.1.1.

That's what I thought it was also. I really don't wanna have to go buy a new router

I am bit confused. You say you can connect to the internet using a wired connection. Is the 7500 the modem/router you normally use to connect to the internet? If so, did you do an ipconfig/all to see what your gateway is?

I have charter cable internet, I had this westell router when I had dsl but don't anymore. The cable modem (cisco) didn't come with a wireless router so I hooked up the westell to my computer and changed the versa to routed and used it as a router, But it didn't want to connect to my computer even though it connected to my tablet and phone so I thought I would start with a clean slate and decided to restore the westell to factory defaults. When it rebooted It tells me I need to sync it with my dsl to start activation. I just want to skip that part and get into the menu. I can get online when i hook both my computer and the cisco to the westel with ethernet. It takes a minute for the internet to start working but once it locks me out of the westel, it gives me the ciscos ip address so I guess its just going right though the westell. Sorry if that's a lot to read lol

I thought I originally just let the wizard run through it paces without any connection to my DSL line. Been awhile and I didn't make any notations in my notebook. I guess you cannot get into the 7500 even through the wireless?

Yeah it eventually times out and gives me a help line number but I doubt they would be very willing to give me help without being a customer, And as for the wireless it is showing one, but I cannot connect to it, its using a default ssid (11FX10022956) but it will not accept any default passwords, I have tried admin, Admin, password, Password. I even tried some of my old passwords and still a no go.

I was able to connect to the wifi, The password was on the bottom of the modem, But it still wont let me past the activation page

Yes, I have tried to bypass it wired and wireless - no go. Although I can stop it by changing the address line in the browser.

Well I appreciate your help. Maybe this post will save someone else a few hours if they have the same issue. Guess I'm off to walmart.

I sent an email off to someone that may know a process, doubtful but worth a try. I'll let you know what their response is. You have a couple alternatives 1) you can mail it to me and I'll set it up or 2) I have a TrendNet you can have for the postage, its new never been used except to test.

Okay, what would be the postage be? I've never sent anything in the mail before so I don't know how all that works or costs, in the mean time I got one from walmart but was kinda expensive, But I can return it within 15 days if I can get this one working.

I would guess the postage would be somewhere around $10 bucks for priority USPS. Is the 7500 you have a Frontier or Verizon branded unit?
