 | [Homephone] Does DryLoop has 911 service ? I was wondering if I get a dryloop installed for the Fibe internet (I use a cellphone only) will the line have a dial tone and can I dial 911 with it ?
thanks |

 | I suspect however that a dry loop calling 911 would not show subscriber name information - just a generic DRY LOOP entry in the ALI database.
It is questionable as to Bell's requirement to provide 911 simply because there is dialtone on the line. If the customer has not ordered phone service, and the line is meant only to connect to a DSL modem, is there any real reasonable expectation that 911 service should work? Can the argument be made that Bell needs to provide 911 service to every address they have wires in to, even if the customer doesn't subscribe to their phone service. Probably not. -- MNSi Internet - »www.mnsi.net |

| You're right, it doesn't show subscriber name information. I think that there is a reasonable expectation that 911 service would work, mostly for the "just in case". It may not matter much in the age of mobile phones and such, but if you needed it and it wasn't there... |

Dry loop is not a phone service.
Are cable provider not included in this law ?
Also try it and see. |

| Just tried it (after asking permission, of course): my dry loop has 911 access. I'll look up the regulations (may not actually be law) and get back to you.
Edit: The regulations were abolished. My bad. I shouldn't assume that just because mine does, all do. |

 | reply to dutox101 Just a warning to everyone out there. DO NOT DO A TEST CALL ON YOUR DRY LOOP TO SEE IF 911 IS AVAILABLE.
The 911 PSAPs are NOT staffed to handle unnecessary call volume. -- MNSi Internet - »www.mnsi.net |

The 911 PSAPs are NOT staffed to handle unnecessary call volume. Exactly. I called my local 311, was transferred to the right people and asked politely if I could make a test call. They told me to wait about 20 minutes then go ahead as they had additional people starting. Definitely 100% call a non-emergency number and ask/set up a time first.

 | good to know, thanks!
I use VOIP.ms with e911 but if something where to go wrong it is good to know that I could hook my phone to the line
As I have 3 cell phones also...this would pretty much be a Armageddon situation :P |

 | Thanks for all your inputs very interesting discussion.
Kovy maybe the 911 fee is included in the dryloop fees they charge ? |

Kovy maybe the 911 fee is included in the dryloop fees they charge ? There's no charge when you're with Bell...
Also that would make it a hidden fee if not listed in the price. |

 | reply to dutox101 I have a dry loop line with Bell and I can confirm that there is NO access to 911 on the line. Only ANAC works on my line. Bell does not charge a dry loop fee. |

So you were also able to call 311 ????? Try calling your cellular. |

I don't understand how I was able to make a test call to 911; I can't call anything else besides ANAC and 611. I'll keep investigating and see what's going on. Maybe it's because it's a Bell dry loop and not a 3rd party dry loop (i.e. the internet service on the line is from Bell).
I'll keep you posted. |

 | reply to dutox101 I called bell in november and they said no. i think i called 611 and they called me back after they checked. Maybe someone from the bell direct forum could verify here. |
