 | [OK] 5 Months of Outages. Since about five months ago I noticed that I started getting random outtages. Sometimes would last a few seconds, then up to a few minutes the modem would reset and finally as of late the internet will drop out. I decided to buy a newer modem. Motorola SB6141.
Now I have a different setup than most people because I am on the home office/business portion. I have called multiple times to report that this is going on but when they check my signal levels they say all is fine, yet through-out my house nothing is working.
This isn't the first time this has happened (about 2 1/2 years ago this happened), the last time I decided to upgrade to the ultimate plan after 18 months of repeated disconnects which was a last ditch effort and to my surprise it fixed it! Up until lately.
Here is the signal status of my modem:

Now my setup isn't your normal setup. I am intermediate when it comes to Linux, (I couldn't grasp Windows 7 or 8)
[Cable Modem] --> [1x Realtek Nic on ClearOS Box for External] --> Intel Nic #1 ---> Workgroup Switch A) D-Link Dual 1Gbps --> Intel Nic #2 --> Workgroup Switch B) TrendNet 1Gbps
3 NIC's on The ClearOS Gateway, 1 Incoming NIC 2 outgoing to 2 separate switches. I tried using the 4 port plastic Netgear & Cisco routers however I had an even worse time staying connected than before.
This has got me baffled, and I am seriously looking into other ISP's as I have work to get done and bills that need to be paid and I need reliable internet with decent speed. The last time we fixed this I moved to the ultimate plan and for 3 years no issues. Is there another plan I could move to to see if this would temporarily fix the problem. |

 | Your situation sounds very similar to mine. Not sure if you're in OKC or Tulsa, but you may check my posts a few threads below - I am posting updates there.
I got into the executive level here and things have started happening. |

They will need your modem's mac address (on the back of your device) and a contact phone #, remember to only give your personal info to any of the reps authorized on this board here: »Cox HSI Forum FAQ »Who are the authorized Cox employees that provide support on this forum?
5 months, I'd be pissed, too.

 VentShop join:2009-08-21 Oklahoma City, OK | reply to goswickbcox The more complicated you make your setup the less they are going to troubleshoot it when you call in. Their policy is to remove all router's switch's and gateways and have one computer directly connected to the modem.
You may want to do a trouble shoot on your own to remove all possible variables from your end. That involves moving the modem to the location where the cable is first accessible to you be that on the outside of the house where the drop is located or before any splitters etc. Run a network cable directly to one computer and hook it all up, if it functions and your computer is getting online and doing a speedtest fine you may want to look at your network for a glitch.
you can also use MTR for an extended period of time to see where your issues are coming in. »ss64.com/bash/mtr.html
But removing your gateway and running direct to a pc is the best first step to troubleshooting a problem. If the computer gets online and has no issues look to your internal net as the culprit. If the issues are still happening without a switch/gateway then you may have a cox side issue. |
