encryption software recommendations

We are using SOPHOS safe gaurd easy for encryption of our laptops. I cam to the site with this software already installed on our laptops. Does anyone have an opinion of the software and if there are any other software that you have used and would recommend?

Where I work, we are switching from Sophos to Self-Encrypting Drives. This seems to be the way to go.

Is there a big price difference between Self-Encrypting Drives & normal drives?

It is what we use on our forensic laptops. Big fan of Truecrypt.

Yes, SEDs are more expensive.

I heard that Truecrypt was good but that's a standalone solution right? can't be managed centrally.

Correct. You become the central managing point.

What would one externally manage on encryption? having remote ability to modify it would seem to make its protection nullified?

Dont know but i think of that technology carrying across all types of devices (laptops, phones, etc) some central control maybe needed
