Emptying Camera Roll after iTunes sync

Wife's iPad has hundreds of images in Camera Roll (she rarely syncs to iTunes), so she was running out of space. I had her sync and the images were loaded into iPhoto and synced back to her iPad. However, when iPhoto was done, there was no option to empty Camera Roll. I know she can manually click each of the hundreds of images, but there's got to be an easier way to remove them.
I synced a few more times, hoping to see the iPhoto option to empty Camera Roll, but it never appeared.
Is there an easy way to manually empty Camera Roll?
Why isn't the option to empty appearing?
Thanks!

I've never seen a way to empty the whole camera roll. Always have to do them one by one.

Don't mean to get off topic but I have run into the problem in the past on my iPad and my old iPhone. I use a Galaxy SIII now and you can select an "album" of pics on your phone and delete whatever pics are in that album with one click. It's these little things that prevent me from coming back to Apple as much as I love Apple and their form factor.
Alas, perhaps in iOS 7 we shall see something as basic as this.

You can also use Image Capture (in the Applications folder) to delete all pictures at once if you are having issues with iPhoto.

Click for full size
Ok after an import of photos into iPhoto it prompts you to either "Delete Photos" or "Keep Photos". Even after the import you can plug the device back in and click on the device in the lefthand tool bar and you get another prompt to delete all imported photos as shown in the picture I posted.
Here's a link on how as well : »support.apple.com/kb/HT3603?view···le=en_US
