| [Rave] Wind Mobile Not sure why, but when I used Rogers I always use massive amount of data usage, not only on the iPhone, but also their data stick. Oddly, my iPhone usage (according to my PHONE) was always about 30% lower than what Rogers claimed.
Anyway, I have a Wind portable device, and it's the exact opposite. Not only do I find it hard to reach my 1 GB per month ($5 plan), my device overstates by 10% by what I am charged ( well, told, since I'm always under 1 GB )
What I have found with Rogers: Some e-mail checking, 5 minutes of twitter a day = 1000MB within 28 days or so. With my Wind, I can surf on my iPad to here, check twitter, check my e-mail, and let my kids use it for Minecraft when we're out, and the highest I've gone is 800 MB. I can't do anything basic with Rogers yet download music, Minecraft, e-mail, everything else with Wind and still fall under 1 GB. Though my iPhone has never said I've gone over 1 GB (that's when I'd stop using) but it's Rogers themselves with the SMS warnings. In this case, 680 MB according to iPhone is 1 GB for the Rogers network.
Anyway....yeah, Wind isn't as reliable as Rogers....but at least I can use a $5 service and not worrying about being raped. Thanks Wind. -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

 | i know people who switched from bell, and rogers to mobilicity, and wind and rave about it, also the fact that their monthly bill is always the same which is $40.00 never up or down....this is both mobilicity and wind...one person switched when they had a half price sale, and they are signed up for a full year at $19.00, their bill is in fact the same every month and they get the package deal as if they were paying $40.00..
one exception is one person had to pay the roaming charges when in montreal, since the city is not serviced by them...can't recall if it was the one with mobilicity or wind right now... |

| True...you generally get billed as expected. I always went over $10 or so, or more...just for dumb little things. Never happens now, I do what I want and when I want, bill remains the same. -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

 | another person who is with rogers pays between $79.00 and $90.00 each month, it varies, while her husband pays $40.00 with mobilicity for the same services.
i was just talking to rogers yesterday only because the phone i want samsung 2 is $149.00 with a 3 year contract...that phone is $799.00 elsewhere...the plan i was looking at was $100.00 and if i wanted this and that i was going to have to add another $5.00 etc etc...of course people who are with wind told me i was crazy, if i go with them... |

| You would be crazy to do just that. Pay rogers say $100 a month + $200 for the phone lets say. That's $3800 over 3 years not including taxes. Go with wind or mobilicity however and pay $800 for the phone and $40 a month. That's $2240 over 3 years not including taxes. The clear winner is wind or mobilicity.
Unfortunately many people are too ignorant or in too much of a hurry and choose the cheaper up front option over the cheaper over the contract term option. |

| reply to J E F F If you're blowing through 1GB of data in a month doing just some "email checking" and "five minutes of twitter" you either have something pulling in a lot of data in the background, or you're not telling the whole story. In similar circumstances with both an SGS3 and now a Note 2 I've never come anywhere close.
For what it's worth, I get 1000 anytime, unlimited e/w, unlimited incoming, unlimited messaging, CID, voicemail, unlimited North American LD and 3GB of data for $70/month with Rogers. As great as Wind is, with a plan like this and with my data usage being typically 1/10th (for those few emails and few minutes of Facebook when there's no Wifi) of what the plan includes I see absolutely no need to switch. That, and my phone will work on the QEW between Fort Erie and Niagara Falls. |

| reply to J E F F And with wind you'd be getting all that but unlimited for $30/month (Ontario unlimited calling anyway and assuming you brought your own phone). Your phone would still work on the QEW between Erie and Niagara Falls but you'd pay small roaming charges ($.15/min or $.15 per text). Figure out how much you use your phone in areas which aren't covered by wind and see if that comes anywhere close to your $70 bill from Rogers.
That is what I did. Switched and haven't looked back. |

| Minutes mean nothing. It's all about data (for me, anyway). The data isn't really "unlimited" on Wind, they slow you down to like 128k at 5GB (though I've heard in some areas it's more) unless you pay additional money for premium data. I get 3GB now. With LTE, too.
I have nothing against Wind. I used one of their data sticks when my son was in the hospital for two weeks after he was born and it worked fairly well. It's just that I have a five phone Rogers corporate account that I manage. Rogers has been good to me. I'm not taking my business anywhere else just to save a few bucks for something that may or may not be as reliable as what I have now, nor the least of which may not respond "how high?" when I call them up and request that they jump. I'd probably encourage my mother or sister to use Wind, though.
What J E F F is describing doesn't make sense, though. I have certainly never experienced anything like that on Rogers ever. I'd be very curious as to what is actually going on. |

GBerry join:2011-06-12 Guelph, ON | reply to J E F F True, having LTE would be nice. I just thought that data wouldn't be huge for you considering you go through maybe 300mb per month. |

| reply to Gone There was a lot of background stuff, such as automatic sending of crashes to Apple, but for whatever reason, just light usage would take me up quickly. That said, I never understood why my usage claimed by phone was less than what Rogers said I'd used. -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

| reply to Gone I do have some issues with the iPhone when it updated to 6. Before that, data went up slower, but I still had a hard time staying with 1 GB of usage. I still don't understand the difference between what the phone monitors and what Rogers monitors, with about a 30% difference, in their favour.
I'm paying 60% less than your $70 plan, and really haven't noticed any issues, other than their network data speed being slower than Rogers. However, what's the point of fast data if you're restricted to a couple GB's per month? -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

 | reply to J E F F I switched from the thieves of Rogers last summer to WIND and I have never looked back. I have yet to experience the "poor" alleged Wind talk quality. I get WIND signal EVERYWHERE I go, almost all of the Golden Horseshoe, Toronto, Barrie, Newmarket, even Angus. There's WIND coverage from Ajax all the way to the U.S. border, that's where I am 99.9% of the time.
I can still make a phone call on my WIND phone from Wasaga Beach or Algonquin Park with roaming, who cares if I have to pay the 50 cents a minute fee while suckling off a foreign tower, if I make a phone call from outside my area it would be because I broke down in my car or say I have arrived, how much is saying those words going to cost me? $2 extra on my WIND bill at the end of the month? Big deal.I love you WIND. |

However, what's the point of fast data if you're restricted to a couple GB's per month? If it was my own personal phone I'd probably switch to Wind in a heartbeat. Because I'm dealing with a multi-line corporate setup I really just can't justify switching us all, particularly when a lot of our travel is into areas that Wind doesn't have home coverage in. If Wind had the same blanket coverage as Rogers and they had a dedicated business account rep and support centre who kisses my ass I could probably justify the switch. Right now, it is simply not going to happen.
As I said though, my sister may find herself with a new Wind phone and a pay later service plan as a gift in the not too distant future. |

| reply to J E F F I'm making the switch tommorow and when i know the number has ported over , I'm going to tell Rogers to pound sand.
My latest bill has charges for $13.50 for 27 picture text messages ** I KNOW ** I didn't send. I replied to a shitload of them, and if they are charging for that....
Either ways they can't do anything if i refuse to pay. -- No, I didn't. Honest... I ran out of gas. I... I had a flat tire. I didn't have enough money for cab fare. My tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole my car. There was an earthquake....... |

| reply to Gone Wind will unlikely have the same coverage as Rogers, ever. It's that extra coverage that costs Rogers/Bell/Telus so much money. It does suck to have some dead areas...but at least now I can use the phone for certain things like streaming music or sports. | reply to elwoodblues Rogers charges 50 cents if you reply to picture texts. Like I said if we didn't have people who travel to Stevensville or Fenwick and only stayed in the immediate Fort Erie/Crescent Park/Ridgeway/Crystal Beach area it would make sense. That, and the customer service we receive at Rogers is top-notch. I would expect it to be when you spend as much money as we do. I've heard mixed things about Wind. One can deal with bad CS when it's a personal account. It is simply not an option for a corporate account. |
