AVG screws up again

»www.h-online.com/securit ··· 171.html

Why this poor AVP is even allowed to be mentioned with the word security is beyond me............this is about the 6th time ,this has happened with this company.

And it continues to identify unknown files as ''Generic trojans'' as it has for years...........just the worst piece of crap software anyone could use.

Stay away from it.

Very unfortunate! But most (if not all) other AV's have had false positives too. IMO, until AV's and anti-malware moves to white listing, this is going to happen periodically.

Hence, backups are important. Not just for these false positives but other scenarios like hardware failures.

I understand false positives, but on OS files is just a lack of testing prior to release and shouldn't be forgiven.

True, but it has happened to pretty much all of the AV companies at one time or another.

Aside from that, it is part of two major failures by Microsoft that have gone on for many years:

1) Failure to adequately protect OS files.

2) Allowing other programs and apps to mess with the Windows OS rather than being rigidly separate. MS was insane to go down that road to begin with.
