Verizon Westell 6100g on Windstream?

I am attempting to set up a Windstream DSL connection on my Westell 6100g modem and having no luck. All settings have been configured to Windstream's standards. VPI/VCI as 0/35 etc... Still no ppp conncection. Anyone know if this modem is simply not compatible? Windstream says that it is but can't help me much.

could it be the Verizon firmware?

any help much appreciated! thanks!
