God of War: Ascension

Who's playing this game?

My impressions so far...

I am a HUGE GoW fan, but I do have to say that as great as this game is, it feel like it's missing something... I don't know how to describe it other than as it's missing some kind of oomph. Also, the camera views suck at times. It's like the camera will pull so far back in order to show the big picture, that you loose sight of Kratos, which in a big fight with tons of enemies, has caused me to get hit plenty of times, it's also caused me to die at times when trying to traverse certain points in the environment where you're under a time constraint and trying to outrun something.

It also seems like you just get dropped into the middle of the game with absolutely no plot development, and you're just supposed to start going all out. Not keen about that. But the storyline is fleshed out more through flashbacks, and sometimes through flashbacks within flashbacks, so about 1/4th of the way into the game, you finally get what's going on.

The game does get a lot better about halfway through, so that's a good thing, but I'm currently at the Trails of Archimedes and Holy Crap it's tough!

same here, got the special edition release day and beat demo before hand. just beat first boss last week and stopped playing it. gonna resume playing it tonite but i agree 100 percent. it feels like something is missing this time around. i was soooo pumped for gow3 a few years back and literally ate through it in a week. even left early on a friday following release to finish the game off.
this one so far is meh for me. hopefully that changes tonite.

resumed last night and oh man finished stage one where you are riding the titan and fighting the other titan....... blown away. was hoping it would get really good. heres hoping this is a sign of things to come.
i saw quite a few people on my friends list playing it last week too. i think they beat it already though.
how was the rest of the game, epic?better or tied with 3?

i have to finish the orgins collection next. surprisingly the 3d looks really good, probably one of the best 3d games i have seen.

I was looking forward to it until I played the demo. I also didn't care for the camera work and overall it just felt...meh. I'm sure it's better later on but I'll just wait until it's on sale, especially since I have zero interest in the multiplayer.

It does get better later in the game. But like I said, I didn't care for the camera work, and as far as the game itself, even though it does improve throughout, it still feels like it's lacking depth.... or something else that made the other games epic... Can't quite place my finger on it...

The online multiplayer is awesome!!! You don't know what you're missing.

I have been so busy with WoW lately that I have not had a chance to touch the single player portion of this. However, I played the crap out of the multiplayer one night (played from 2000 to about 0200) and leveled up to rank 10 in Ares. It is quite a bit of fun, though, some of the moves/gear does not seem too balanced.

I am actually going to pass on this one. I am a huge God of War Fan...but IMO Kratos story is over with GOW3....going any farther just might ruin it for me.

We had two prequels to God of War with Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta

Then we had God of War

Then God of War 2 and 3 are like parts 1 and 2 of the ending of Kratos story.

I have very fond memories of God of War, and my best friend played it and was disappointed...she said its not as good as the other ones...I told her not to tell me the story, I don't want it ruined...IMO GOW and Kratos story is done...

Hopefully Sony moves on with the next installment of GOW with a new hero that is no Kratos with a new story...its time..:) Plus GOW and multiplayer just doesn't sit well with me...

However I hope those who bought it are enjoying it and getting their worth out of it.

Well this game actually seems like it comes before Chains of Olympus. It's what sets it all up and sets him on his way for the rest of the games in the series.

I've read rumors online that God of War IV will be about the Persian god, Mithra. At a certain point in the game, there is actually a coded message that seems to hint at this. The code was supposedly deciphered already, and the signs seem point to GoW IV being about Mithra, and most likely having to do with the Persian myths and deities.

As for the online multiplayer, it's actually pretty great. It's not about GoW as in the sense of Kratos, think of it as the Trojans vs. the Spartans; with Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Co-Op, Obtain the Altars, etc...

The Trail of Archimedes was the toughest part of this game IMO.

yea so i have heard. i popped in the game saturday and got an update prompt. looked up online what the update was for and apparently the trial was so hard the developers had to patch it to make it easier. you probably beat it before the patch.

cant wait to finish this and jump into both orgins titles in 3d, then replay 1 and 2 in hd to get some trophies, before finishing it off with a play through of part 3.

Are you serious?!!! That's some bullsh*t!

I struggled through it and beat it like a real gamer! That's sucks that they made it easier for everyone else!

yea i was surprised, i guess enough people complained about it. i still remember when i was a kid with my nes, snes, gamegear, n64, psx before patches existed.
if there was a glitch or a part too hard, too bad, you had to beat it or tough luck.

is it me or does it seem like they turned down the gore a bit. like i remember gow3 when you finished off the cyclops you would rip his eyeball out, now the animations is less graphic. a lot of the death finishers are less graphic from 3 it seems. still really fun game though nevertheless. tried multiplayer for like 5 mins but couldnt get into it. will try it again after finishing story

I don't know what you're talking about? You mean you didn't see Kratos cut open the Elephant Juggernaut's head and the brains kinda just slop out???

Plenty of other gory kills. They most certainly did not tone the gore down.

You really need to find a weapon that speaks to you. The default sword is an all-around weapon, whereas the spear is fast/combo-enabler and the hammer is power/some crowd control. Additionally, I recommend messing with the Allegiances and find the one that you like the most, as each has different special moves and magic.

thanks will jump back into multiplayer this weekend.I will hopefully find a weapon and character i can get comfortable with. finished ascension last night, really epic. not as good as 3 but really close.
popped in chains of olympus and finished a quarter of it. will probably finish orgins before week ends.

this always happens. after i finished 3 i was itching for more, dlc or more story missions but i felt it was short and left me wanting more.
this was the same , finished ascension and i want more kratos
