Re: My Credit Card account hacked??? we caught it about 10 days after it happened while reconciling the account prior to the payment due date. what was odd was the brick and mortar purchases -- meaning they had to have a fake card. either way -- it is what it is. we have $0 fraud liability on the card -- i called up, explained the situation, then they refunded the amount to the statement, canceled the account, then issued us new cards and overnighted them to our residence. all in all -- the credit card company was very easy to deal with.
i do wish -- however -- that i knew how the card was stolen and how they "copied" it for convincing use.

| reply to Octavean You know what sucks, I made a rather large purchase a few days ago, my card won't be billed until the item is shipped, now when they go to ship item, the pre-approval will be rejected. | I did call them to let them know, I just worry that someone's not going to get the "memo" and simply delete order. It's just a $600 bike, so not a big deal. Funny, when I called them, they were surprised item hadn't been sent out yet (it was suppose to arrive yesterday but never did). -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

 | reply to J E F F Check with your card provider I use my bank's branded Visa cards and they have a no cost set of use alert options buried in their account settings
I have my cc accounts set to send me a text when a card not present sale is made, a gasoline purchase and any transaction over $150
A bonus for me as a business owner, I always know when items I ordered finally ships because the places I do business with don't hit card until it ships
Found out about it while I was going thru hoops with the fraud department when my card got compromised Asked how I can make it harder for the idiots to get me and they pointed me to the alerts... |

genxrPremium join:2004-08-11 Arlington, TX | reply to J E F F My identity was stolen years ago, and they still open accounts with merchants and online banks. They even filed a federal tax return last year. Once they have your information they'll sell it and pass it around.
I suggest putting a fraud alert on your credit reports. It's free if you're a victim of ID theft. You might go the distance, like I have, and put a freeze on your records. It can be a pain when you're applying for new credit but worth it to have the control. |

 | reply to Styvas I highly doubt it was an Apple Store employee, most likely the thief had touched your card in the past 3-6 weeks or so and done small purchases(>$5) in the time period. My dad during the holiday season(Nov--a week before black friday) had a similar issue, someone tried a few small purchases in Florida then went nuts on shopping... oddly CrapOne froze the card before it hit $100, then again out-of-state transactions are likely flagged quicker than iTunes/online purchases.
A security tip I was given(after the PSN hack), when you shop locally have a certain "card or two" so you're able to monitor it easily. Use a dedicated card for online-only. If one card is de-activated you'll still be able to handle day to day life. ...my CC was stolen/used the week when PSN went down, worst part of it was I kept hitting the weekly limit on my debt card until my replacement card arrived

| The only person to have physically touched my card was an Apple employee who took it behind the Genius Bar. No other purchases. He said the chip reader was down, so he swiped my card, and asked for my email address, which is also my AppleID. The AppleID would have my full address, which you need to create an AppleID and be able to use a credit card. Though I cannot prove it. To me the key is having someone have my postal code, as well as the security code on the back of card. -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

| Vudu service is okay. It's streamed through an LG Smart TV Upgrader (LG ST600 i believe).
For set-up, router must use USA DNS, or VPN. That gets you all the apps for the LG, otherwise, you're stuck with Netflix and YouTube only, and a couple others.
For vudu, use the first three numbers of your postal code, and add two digits at the end (00, 01, 02). So postal code L3R 2G1 become zip code 32102, Astor, Florida. You need to find a valid zip code for it to work.
Alternatively, you can get a 7/11 prepaid MasterCard and register it to a Oregon zip code. Oregon, because no tax, no blackouts. (I used it for MLB last year) -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

| said by Styvas:I guess I'm more curious how you find it compared to other services like Netflix or HuluPlus. Have you tried the others enough to draw a comparison? They're all different, everything on vudu is paid content, some free stuff, but not much. It's more like AppleTV. Netflix for some TV shows and movies, HuluPlus for more TV shows and very little movies, vudu for movies, but you have to pay. Vudu apparently has movies the day they're released on DVD.
The little LG box is actually quite surprising as it does a lot more than its competitors. It also plays movies from USB sticks, oddly, it rarely worked until I told it I was from the USA. -- If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough. - Albert Einstein |

Paul928 join:2000-05-06 Haverhill, MA | reply to J E F F I woke up this morning, checked into my bank account, and found an $800.00 charge on my card from Apple.....I called the bank, and they informed me to call Apple, which I did. Apple told me that the charge was cancelled by them, because for some reason they knew the purchase was fraudulent ! Now I just read on the Verge web site that Apple accounts and passwords were hacked yesterday.....not sure if any of it is relevant to what happened to me or not, or to the original poster....I went into my iTunes account and took my credit card info out just in case. |

| Very interesting. Not sure if it is or could be related, but very odd. But it only takes a couple bad fruit in a bunch of good employee's to royally mess things up. But my issue was for sure an issue on the Apple side. Also teaches me that regardless where I go, even if it is a most trusted source, never hand them your credit card, or at least never let it get out of your site.
My credit card company was telling me that the #1 source of fraud are fellow employee's. So if you leave your wallet around for a second, it's not uncommon for them to get the info from your card, and they can figure out your address, and that's all they need for online virtual purchases. Debit cards are bank controlled, not hooked to Visa or MasterCard, thank goodness. Debit cards can easily be cancelled and replaced.
