Avoiding ads

Many apps have both a free version and a paid version. I get the paid version so I don't have to use my data to download ads for products I will never buy.

Doesn't help with ads on the webpages you browse. Most of the ad blocking apps (they usually work by editing the HOSTS file) do.

You can install Firefox mobile and use Adblock Plus with it. No root required. My phone is rooted so it really doesn't matter, but the average joe should know about this option.

I use this combination. Adblock works.

I also use it on my PC and I don't get why everybody is complaining about all the ads until I have to use IE to use a site and can't get anything done for all the flashing and drop down ads. If you also use Noscript it stops a lot of the junk.
