[CATV] question on tape delay of Filipiino channels

2 days ago, my mother (who recently arrived from the Philippines and will stay with me a few months) and myself were eagerly awaiting to watch the pope coverage on the filip[ino channels (mainly TFC). Unfortunately, the coverage didn't start until this morning. That's like an approx 36 hour delay.

When she was at my sister's in Seattle for a week prior to coming to Philly, she said the delay for TFC was somewhere between 12-24 hours.

I don't expect it to be live, but would RCN somehow be stretching the delay to approx 36 hours or is TFC providing RCN with a 36 hour old signal?

I don't think RCN is delaying the channel. It's most likely being delayed from the downstream from TFC.

Most international channels are not the exact same as the feed that the originating countries see especially with up to 12 hour time difference. Therefore a US base of the channels operation will record some original content, edit it, insert domestic commercials with appropriate US time zones then send to operators that carry the channel. That is what causes the delay not RCN. It would be more troublesome in fact to store 3 days worth of shows then stream it then it would be to pass a "live" feed.

So say a prime time game show airing on at 8pm on a Monday In Manila might not be seen in till Wednesday 8pm in US.
