[WIN7] Right click for disk properties-Explorer quits working

Windows 7 64 bit. Nothing fancy as in no RAID arrays, etc.

Not sure when it started happening but I can no longer check the properties of my hard drives. If I right click to go to the sub-menu from which I can click Properties, Windows Explorer stops working.

It is just my hard drives.

I can check thumb drives, SD memory cards, etc.

I have Spybot II running.

Edit: I can get to the disk properties if I go through Organize and then to Properties.

Re: [WIN7] Right click for disk properties-Explorer quits workin

Can you open the Action Center on the taskbar > Maintenance > View reliability history > View all problem reports

Can you right-click on a few of the "Windows Explorer" "Stopped working" errors > View technical details

What are the details of the errors?

There is a "Copy to Clipboard" link at the bottom.

Also, the problem could be a problematic third party context menu handler.

The following link has some info and a download to ShellExView which you can use to selectively disable third party context menu handlers to find out a problematic one:

»windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm

You could try disabling all non-Microsoft context menu handlers and then, if the problem resolves, re-enable them one at a time to see which one was the problem.

Its too bad you didnt know when this started as you could try a system restore and see if that possibly fixed things....

Good luck my friend!

And easy place to start is Win 7's System File Checker.

Some others have reported the problem. It appears I was close and didn't know it.

"This had me quickly realise that the problem, in my case, was caused by Spybot SD 2 and its Explorer integration (64-bit). Thanks."

Sure enough. Disabled Spybot 2's Explorer integration and everything works fine.
