| Replacing Honeywell thermostat Current unit 1 | Current unit 2 | Connections on new unit |
System is a gas fired furnace in the attic and an separate air conditioner outside.
It appears as though G, W, C, Y, and R will simply connect to the new unit without any issue. But there's those three extra connections (K, Y2, W2) to the left. It doesn't appear as though the four extra wires match. From the wall, they are orange, gray, black, brown, and pink.
The manual from Honeywell is shit. Or I don't understand the words...
New unit is Honeywell RTH6500WF. |

Re: Replacing Honeywell thermostat Those are actually not needed for your application. They are for other features you are not using such as two-stage furnace, transfer valve for a heat pump, emergency, etc. |

| reply to nocannothave You're in good shape. Leave the wires that weren't connected disconnected.
You just have extra wires ready to go in the event you want to upgrade your system with 2-stage heating or cooling later on. -- AT&T U-Hearse - RIP Unlimited Internet 1995-2011 Rethink Billable.

 | Sounds like this is nearly a plug and play install, then. |

| reply to nocannothave You didn't by chance to write down/take pictures of how the OLD one was connected?
The new one will use the same wires as the old one. Just because you are adding a fancy thermostat, that will not necessarily add any new hardwired functionality to the existing system.
Y2 aand W2 are typically used for second stage cooling and heating. -- The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits. |

Not having the C wire available is the most common "gotchya" that I've run into replacing T-stats. You already had this, so it should be pretty straightforward in your case. -- AT&T U-Hearse - RIP Unlimited Internet 1995-2011 Rethink Billable.
