Re: Citigroup: Cablevision Likely to Be Sold

Well they don't have any coverage in the northeast currently but hey I wouldn't mind Brighthouse if they made an offer if Cablevision was selling.

The sale is inevitable. I would HATE to see TWC takeover and impose usage caps. As much as the layperson beyotches about Cablevision, many of them don't realize how much better CV is than other providers.

When that day comes and CV is no more, people will want the Dolans back.

My mother has TWC and I couldn't agree more. For all of CVs faults, they really aren't that terrible (compared to others).

This isn't going to happen. Despite what the person's sister who works for Time Warner thinks.

BH is owned partly owned by TWC. They spun the brand off after the TW/AOL merger. And now its just a handful of areas that have/use BH. the give away is they use the XXX.rr.com email/domain.

What makes you think anything would change if TWC takes over?

The business model is working, they probably wouldn't go about messing with caps, etc... customers are coming.. even with FIOS. It would make no sense for them to raise prices, and lower speeds, charge more fees, etc.

But it is their business...

OMG, I run a small business myself, I am not anti-business.

But in a big corporate buyout, the new owners almost always come in and want to maximize revenue right away by raising prices, cutting staff, and skimping on product.

Two reasons:

1) They need the increased cash flow to pay for the buyout they just did.

2) To make more money was the whole reason they did a buyout in the first place....

That's being extremely naive. As Gershom above has noted, there's been many examples of layoffs and raised prices including their version of 'upgrades' like removing faster tiers like Ultra in this case..(the same BS the wireless industry has used to switch to the cap and overage fee strategy over unlimited data) and fees galore. The stories I linked above showed it would be bad all around if TWC ever bought out Cablevision. Almost any other competitor wouldn't be much better either.

Sure ilsno has mentioned some channels that TWC has in HD that we don't, but that's far from a worthy tradeoff with the reputation TWC has.

Decided to take a trip down memory lane:

»For Sale: Cablevision

»Dolan Weighs Cablevision sale (was:Not unexpected)

One common theme was "WE DON'T WANT YOU SELLING TO AOL!!!111"

Again though, there wasn't defections from upper management then as there is now. Plus we don't know if the damage from Sandy has really put them more in a jeopardizing position to be sold or simply go private (which I'm ultimately predicting).

Going up for sale within the next eighteen months would make the Viacom suit a waste of money. Viacom would just wait them out rather than settle to avoid a suit that would never get to court.

Seems self-contradictory.

If it happens I will probably be seen in the FIOS forum.

I'm in your boat, I don't have Fios in my town to flock to either.

They all appear to have been resignations.

I don't know anything particular about this situation, but people are often allowed to resign, rather than being fired.

No one's arguing that. It's more a matter of why so many within a year's time and if that's a sign of a major change coming.

@optonline.net

Citi has one thing right, they will be sold in the next 18 months, the only thing they left out was the buyer which will be the Dolan family.
