jrwskw join:2006-05-09 Huntington, IN | Central Office History/Information Questions We have a typical-I think-central office built by Indiana Bell in early '70s taking up a full quarter of a block and appearing to have at least 2-3 floors.
Almost the biggest building in our downtown area. Now listed on tax records as owned by Indiana Bell Telephone CO Prop Tax Dept/Sbc Comm Inc as deeded owner.
In first floor windowed area where you used to be able to pay your bill and deal with humans are many desks and on my way to work around 6:15 AM I'll often see a lone man sitting at a desk checking a computer screen.
Just curious as to what used to be in these buildings versus what's there now and who the fellow is and what he's doing.
Guess I picture there being a tiny unit in this big building doing it all these days. But, have no idea and looking for info. Thanks.

Can't know from the outside, but most likely a 5ess CO, man you see is probably the ET working on jobs due inside. |

»showmystreet.com/0oc9lc_-1ewerz_j5g_13 I don't know about the CO in your location, but the main CO in Nashville (7 floors and taking up over half the block with two adjoined buildings) is still totally full of equipment (or at least it was the last time I was there...I have been retired since Jan 2011). The only person that can be seen from the outside in the Nashville CO is the security guard; all of the other ground level windows have been blacked out for years.
