| [Voip.ms] New SMS messaging feature I just noticed the following added to the voip.ms developer log...
Short Message Service (SMS) Customers are now able to receive SMS Messages sent to their SMS Enabled DIDs.
Delivery method could be: * email * Forward to another Phone Number * URL Callback
If SMS is received via email, customers can reply to that email (keeping the subject) to send an SMS Message back to original sender.
All SMS Messages received and sent can be reviewed in our SMS History and Message Center:
------------
I looked at the voip.ms portal for a few clients with them and see the new SMS option showing available for DIDs ported in from other VSPs as well as for DIDs ported in from Verizon landlines. I'm not sure if the SMS option is available for DIDs in all rate centers.
Voip.ms portal says the service is free in beta through 2013, and 1 cent/SMS message beginning in 2014.
I'm looking forward to trying this out when I have a chance. |

 | Excellent. I just don't seem to be able to send out SMS. Any idea how to enable one of my DIDs to send/receive SMS? |
|
 | reply to borntochill Cool -- only one of my DID's allows me to send SMS, but that's pretty cool in my books!
Anyone know of a good client software for windows that is pretty low on resources, but allow to send SMS so I don't need to login all the time? |

Go to DID Numbers >> Manage DID(s) and select your DID. There is a new catetory called, Short Message Service (SMS). Check the box for Enable SMS (Free until 2014).
Now go to DID Numbers >> SMS Message Center. There is a 'Send new SMS' button there that should work now.
Thanks voip.ms!! Awesome new feature! And I am glad to see that the pricing is going to be more than reasonable (1 cent per message) when it is out of beta! |

Incoming not working Has anyone been able to receive an SMS on their voip.ms DID yet? I've enabled several of my DIDs for messaging, but have not been able to receive an SMS. I've tried from a couple of carriers, too.
Sending SMS works, though. |

I suppose that you DO have to have a DID from voip.ms in order to send SMS messages. |
|
 | reply to crazyk4952 I've been able to send and receive. I set it to email me the messages and when you reply to the email it sends out a reply message. |

I've searched everywhere. And apparently the SMS feature has not yet made it into the Voip.ms wiki.
I can, however, arrive at the SMS Message Center via the »www.voip.ms/m/sms.php URL. |

I had it forward them to my email and my cell phone. I've tried with three different DIDs and I still haven't received any messages. They aren't showing up in the voip.ms portal, either. |

Re: [Voip.ms] New SMS messaging feature Am I the only person that sees no real use for this? I get the ability to send a quick message to a device you carry around with you but to have it delivered to your desk, why not just use email? |
|
 | i don't see any option to enable sms when i edit any of my did's |

 | reply to borntochill Wow, this is great. I have a DID that I ported in 10 months ago from OptimumVoice and it works as described.
I set mine up to forward to email.
the email comes from sms@voip.ms and includes a coded Subject in the format: [#XXXXX] with a Human readable text "Message sent to NXXNXXXXXX" where NXXNXXXXXX is your voip.ms enabled DID.
SMS from the portal and replying back via email both work as expected with an AT&T cell phone as the other party.
-------
So I tested creating a new email (from a new email address) with that subject to the sms@voip.ms email address and it sent the SMS to my voip.ms SMS enabled DID. The "from" DID was the AT&T cell phone that I used to test above.
So, it appears that they create a new encoded subject for each from DID to your voip.ms enabled DID..
GREAT STUFF, voip.ms! -- (1) It's either 99¢ or $0.99; not .99¢ (2) It's "so MUCH fun" not "so fun" |
