signmeuptooThank you YankeesPremium join:2001-11-22 NanoParticle kudos:4 | How do I burn a bootable ISO to a thumb drive? I'm running out of blank DVDs, and just emptied a micro SD card and thumb drive adapter. I want to put the new SuSE 12.3 Linux on it so I can install for dual boot. How do you "burn" to a thumb drive a bootable image? |

True that sucks... but pay attention, you said OK by not unchecking the boxes

 | just to make sure we did the simple things first, you did set bios to boot of usb, right? |

 | reply to signmeuptoo I've had some success with UNetbootin, although it has been problematic for me as well. I use this now, works great IMO. If the OpenSUSE 12.1 preset doesn't work, try the unlisted ISO option at the bottom of the list. -- KI6RIT |

| reply to signmeuptoo Other than what kingdome74 suggested, I can't see why you would be having this issue. I have used the unetbootin tool myself on a 32GB USB stick to create a Linux Mint bootable installer from within my Win7 OS. |

aguenPremium join:2003-07-16 Grants Pass, OR | reply to signmeuptoo Could this be a problem related to the UEFI boot manager? |
|
 | reply to signmeuptoo I'd check the Lenovo forums, consumer models have a dumb-ed down BIOS vs Thinkpads. Typically you may need to use an EFI-friendly Linux distro with a few extra command flags on consumer notebooks unless you adjust the EFI settings in the BIOS. Keep in mind if the system uses Intel graphics, most will boot with some usual start-up text and then to a blank screen... just tap the brightness key and you'll be ok. Sandybridge/Ivybridge IGP on notebooks will reset to zero brightness with most distros
Considering all the problems you've had so far, I'm surprised you hadn't returned it |
