Security appliances are riddled with serious vulnerabilities, researcher says:
Companies should not assume that security products are implicitly secure, the researcher said.

Duh. I would have hoped that this was known a long time ago, but it is most certainly not when articles such as this continue to come. The only thing that isn't riddled with insecurities is staying off the Internet. And relying upon someone else to maintain your security is just plain stupid. Nothing is invulnerable any more. The kids of today know more, in many cases, than the companies writing the programs and making the products for many well known vendors.

Yup, about the best you can do is layer your defenses. For example a 3rd party router behind your ISP's modem/router. Software firewalls, A/V scanners and most importantly a brain (assuming you know how to use it ).

The article doesn't exactly match his findings. They list some manufacturer's yet many of them aren't part of the claimed "80%" group with exploits so I'm curious if all the big names fall in the 20% category... the white paper lists five exploits? What?

I also dispute the exaggerative "riddled with serious vulnerabilities" as experiencing a hack based on the vulnerabilities in the white paper are pretty much unrealistic in the real world. Many of them require inside knowledge as to what's being used in various locations.

Absolutely! At least then you have some measure of something working while something else covering that which is vulnerable.

You know the security appliances with the most vulnerabilities? Those security camera dvrs. If you have one of those MAKE SURE you firewall it off the internet.
