Re: [OOL] New Customer.. Email/account question.

Okay, thanks everyone.

It seems you are not required to make nor are assigned an account by default with Optimum.
I have gone ahead and created an account and have set up an email forwarding rule.

Thanks again!

I made the switch today as well. Your Optimum ID/password should be on the work order (pink copy)that you signed. The ID should be your default email address. I believe you can make an alias once you log in.

Did your tech give you that ID/pass, or did he ask you to make one while he was setting up the service?

For me, that area is blank because we kind of forgot about it.
We didn't have any existing cable service, so he had to do a full install/new drop on his own, and there were a huge number of obstacles that came up.

By the time everything was finished, he mentioned if I wanted to set up a username, but I said I'd do it later.

By later, I had assumed after he finished testing to make sure that the internet actually worked. Of course, after that happened (and he had to add a splitter to get the signal down to acceptable levels) we had forgotten about it, so we just signed it, handed him the check and went on our way.

I guess this is why I never got one, but it was painless enough to make the ID on the Optimum site. Only worry was whether it'd be a duplicate account or not, but customer service confirmed that it wasn't for me. The biggest pain was setting up the email forwarding, because like Verizon's webmail, OOL's webmail interface is also god awfully slow.

The tech wrote it down. Seems strange to create your own account, but if Customer Service confirmed everything is in order, guess you should be good.

I'd much rather have them ask me what I'd want my login ID to be or have the option just to do it on my own time than to have a install tech who just wants to go to his next job make me an ID like "ooluser1111" and write it on a piece of paper I'll never look at again. Maybe it's just me..
