Re: CIK Telecom - 150M*/10M - Unlimited said by Davesnothere:said by elwoodblues:I asked 4 days ago about throttling, still waiting on an answer. It seems that their ANSWERS are throttled. Doubt it. Per CRTC reg's they would have to state so, and also include which conditions kick in a throttle. Otherwise the CRTC would come down on them.
Also, I doubt very, very much George Burger would lend his name in a resale agreement to such a thing, and then hide it from the consumers. I just can't see this happening. At all.
When I looked them over it seems they did have some peak time issues before going aggregated (or something like this). But from what I have read to date these issues seems to have been fixed with their upgrade. No different than TSI users who spend months and months and months with congestion before TSI did anything to fix it. So maybe you would like to also pop into the TSI forum and start claiming tsi throttles? Congestion before the upgrade appears to have been the case here at one time. |

It would be a massive upgrade from my 5/0.8 Legacy DSL connection to a multi-tasking and multi-user friendly bandwidth/internet connection. |

said by morisato:I asked them for their Fair Usage policy and they provided me the snippet about harming networks not very useful information. or clear in anyway hence i chose not to deal with ciktel.
This is what i got as a response for a copy of their fair usage policy * 1.9 Unlimited downloading: CIK might provide unlimited internet upload/download with or without conditions which is based on residential customers normal usage, if abnormal usage or malicious activities detected which endangers CIK network, CIK might suspend customers service without notice. CIK unlimited internet downloading policy is also governed by CRTC rules and decision, government laws, and Rogers/Bells policy which if any change, CIK will notice customers by email 30 days in advance at least. * I just reread this... Isn't this sort of clause in all ISPs? Say I use your Internet to hack Government of Canada, you have the right to shut me down no?

| Yes but this is what they claim is their fair usage policy, which to me it is not as such. Fair usage usally indicates that there are softcaps in place on the Unlimited service where a scaling slowdown or discipline occurs. -- Every time Someone leaves Sympatico an Angel gets its wings.

You say that and yet you keep going on this personal crusade to try and dissuade anyone who has doubts about CIKTel's capability to have a stable network.
If it's not an issue, why keep giving it attention? Try actually practicing what you preach before you preach it bub. |

Re: CIK Telecom - 150M*/10M - Unlimited The Only times i have read about "fair usage" its been excuses to offer unlimited without providing true unlimited Usally on Cellphone company plans Like wind Unlimited data which slows at a certain gig so, and all thru the states the same sort of Scheme occurs. The wording itself is what scares me, and i did read some posts at rfd suggesting they do indeed have a 300 gig softcap. and Given there Atpia Working areas I was myself wondering if they resell teksavvy or have there own backbone -- Every time Someone leaves Sympatico an Angel gets its wings.

Plus if they were reselling Teksavvy or the likes, then VMedia would be reselling a reseller. |

| reply to HTCC I got bounced by Rogers for violating a soft cap several years ago when I was purportedly on unlimited (4, 5, 6 years ago. Can't really recall) so I knew to ask about it. There probably isn't a TOS out there that any ISP couldn't use to limit, throttle or suspend if they chose to or to change policy today, tomorrow or down the road. So my policy is that I'm happy until I'm unhappy and when I'm unhappy, I'll go somewhere else. So far, so good (this is my first third party experience). |
