Aspect Ratio 221:100 Need a little explanation

Hey BBR,

Can someone please explain to me what exactly is the subject aspect ratio? For give my cluelessess here, but tonight is the first time I am seeing this aspect ratio. I am used to ap's of say 16:9 ect, you know the basics, but I am also only used to these when in relation to wide screen TV's like my 50" Plasma HDTV. However tonight I d/l'ed the "Veetle" app on to my laptop which has a 17.6 Wide Screen LCD monitor with a native resolution of 1920x1080, and in the Veetle app, you can select a myriad of aspect ratio choices, and other then 4:3, 16:9, 16:10 is 221:100. Choosing this one seems to give me much better clarity of the picture, but I am not able to tell if this is wider then the others, the same, smaller... I really don't know.

I would appreciate any clarity you can give me on this topic. I did search the forum here, and I do not see any thread with this resolution in it, though I did search for the exact txt of "221:100".

Thanks a bunch!!

~John

Same as 2.21:1. It is wider because 16:9 is the same as 1.78:1, 16:10 is the same as 1.6:1 and 4:3 is the same as 1.33:1.

By the way, your laptop screen is 16:9 aspect ratio. That's the aspect ratio that you should select.

Thanks for the reply printscreen, the interesting thing is that I did sett he aspect ratio to 16:9 but I had found that I liked the picture better at 221:100, but again, I don't know how much of the picture I may have been missing. Do you happen to know anywhere that I could be able to see a comparison between all these?

Thanks!

Liking the wider aspect ratio better is probably due to vertical stretching to fill the screen at 16:9 if the content you are watching is natively 221:100.
