Re: [OOL] What speed tier increases would you like to see? Crappy single core T41!!!??? I loved that machine! Still got one in my closet and a T42 also, never got a T43. T60, T61 and now T410s, maybe jumping on the T431s when it comes out
I'm definitely jealous then. I get a MAX of 59Mbps all the time no matter which test I run. |

In terms of actual download speed the the processor has virtually zero effect on download speed. The speed of your connection and even the performance of your hard drive will have more effect. |

Cable companies still have a long while till that is needed. Docsis 3.1 will allow 10gigabit/10gigabit. Add in things like switching to all ip and you will see that cable companies have a long way till they have to go to ftth.
10 gig a node (if a node is 250 houses) all 40/40 connections . if you split that node that would allow 75/75 connections to every home .
Verizon stopped there ftth because of fewer subscribers then they that. google fiber is only 1 area of the country. |

 | reply to kickass69 I just want to see them work on upload speeds. |

| reply to majortom1029 You can't do the upload without a major rebuild since the return is currently way to small... Every single amp and splitter in the plant and customer homes would need to be replaced... Before doing that you may as well look at FTTH - for arial the investment level won't be much different... -- I am addicted to speed --- Boost + speed that is --- |

Replacing amps and splitters is still WAY cheaper then rewiring every pole and every house and adding onts to every house.
also docsis 3.1 is adding things like ofdm and doing away with those 6 and 8mhz channels.
I do not see why splitters and amps have to be replaced if they are not using anything aabove 850mhz
Verizon stated it costs them 3k to wire each house for fios. Times that by 3 million customers and that's a HUGE price tag. Not including replacing the miles of fiber. Cable can replace amps and splitters as people order the new tiers that dcosis 3.1 enables. |

| To get 10gbit on the return the frequency ranges need to shift - e.g. the return needs to be much wider than today.... I don't disagree on the 'cheaper' aspect... The 'much cheaper' holds true until you take into account bandwidth requirements for 3D HD channels etc... at that point you'll likely need to bring the plant form 850mhz to 2ghz - and need to replace coax as well... -- I am addicted to speed --- Boost + speed that is --- |

Boost Plus is nice with 8Mbit upload, but FIOS lets you hit 20+ depending on the tier. It would be nice to be able to finish a cloud backup in less than a week. |
|
 | I'd agree so I can stream gaming in better HD quality on Twitch. |
|
 | reply to kickass69 I'd like to see Boost go to an even 50/10. 50/8 is such a tease. |
|
2 edits | Hopefully sometime in the not too distant future Cablevision will up the speed tiers..ESPECIALLY upload. I agree having it at 10 but the download should be upped to 70-75. |

If you need those speeds, you can get ultra. Not that much more expensive. -- NOTHING justifies terrorism. We don't negotiate with terrorists. Those that support terrorists are terrorists. |
|
 | isn't Ultra like $50 MORE a month? Ultra should also be bumped up to the 150-200Mbps range with 25Mbps on the Upload. Anyone already paying for Ultra will surely love it and some people from other options might consider ultra now (coming down from say 500Mbps speeds which might have been overkill)
75/15 sounds awesome for Boost+ but hey that's just 1 guy talking. I definitely agree about taking freaking a week to complete an initial cloud upload though |

 | reply to kickass69 Plus the $300 install fee. |
|
 | reply to jaa The point here is that Cablevision's speed tiers are stagnant by comparison and thus this discussion. Telling someone to get the highest speed tier with the that bs $300 install fee as mentioned above doesn't contribute anything. |

| Just saying it is hard for them to upsell higher tiers if they give it away. They probably don't think there is much "need" for higher speeds since not many are willing to pay for it.
Sure we'd all like 200/100 speeds for $10/mo.
My guess is they will bump up the speeds for existing tiers when warranted by competition. -- NOTHING justifies terrorism. We don't negotiate with terrorists. Those that support terrorists are terrorists. |

dm145 join:2009-12-12 Clifton, NJ | reply to kickass69 Most customers could not tell you what speed tier there on. ISP's intentionally leave the speed numbers off their bills. As long as the internet works and they can do online shopping, facebook and emails most are fine with lowest tier. |
