[Southeast] {Availability}Still waiting on ports to open.

I've posted on here numerous times about a lack of service, but it's been over a year, so it's time to ask again. My address is xxxx [Edited for privacy] Kayga Ave. Morganton NC 28655. I've been waiting 3 years for high speed Internet access and I'm starting to feel like I'm just going to be left behind. I've been organizing community petitions, working with the NC Dept. of Commerce broadband division directors, and the community is up to 20 signatures and request on a 4 mile stretch.
I wanted to ask you experts though if you saw any projected upgrades or expansions to the area?
I'm a computer engineering student, my fiancee is in school working on his business admin degree, and I know this lack of Internet access will hinder us in not only school work, our jobs, and eventually my business.
Also, I'm beginning work on the adjacent disconnected community next week in hopes of getting at least another 30 signatures.
Thanks in advance for any knowledge or advice.

Re: [Southeast] Still waiting on ports to open.

What exactly are you looking for.

Is there any service.

When you say no ports, that implies there is, but no place to plug in.

Now the numbers, to establish service for miles 20-30 is nothing attractive vs cost to provide.

Now there is service but no port availablity, that should be enough to get them to expand DSLAM capacity.

And a last thing is there UVERSE there? If there is, then there will never be DSL availability... they are reluctantly holding existing DSL customers, but want all new to go UVERSE bundled everything.

There is 1 dslam that provides dsl to a 4 mile stretch of residents. There are at least 12 homes that cannot connect because the ports are full. It's been over 3 years since a port opened up. Uverse is not available. Cable is not available in the area either, although I would be ecstatic if it was, everyone in the area would!
Sunday night the system must have glitched because it let me order both phone service and dsl; but after paying to have them come out and establish, they told me the ports were full and DSL was not available and once again offered me dial-up. The DSL provided in the area never exceeds 2 Mbps down and .3 up (I've speed tested many residents that do have DSL service living within a couple hundred yards of me). However, anything is better than satellite in terms of latency and price.

I doubt that AT&T is going to spend any money on upgrading existing ATM based DSLAMs, but it might be possible that in the foreseeable future AT&T would transfer retired ATM based DSLAM equipment from areas that are being migrated to IP-DSLAMs.

I know that happened here several years ago. And now that the local CO is being upgraded to IP-DSLAM, I would not be surprised if the retired equipment gets relocated again to ATM based areas that need more capacity. Although, this is AT&T we are talking about, so they might just scrap the retired equipment and let outlying areas languish (and/or wait for LTE deployment).

Good luck on your venture. They recently upgraded some of our area to IP-DSLAM (as per the tech) but due to distance from IP_DSLAM, the max speed offered is 3.0M. We, on a good day average 2.2M which AT&T says is "exceptional" for distance to RT (3.7 miles away)...AT&T slipped up and offered 3M to the end of the line which goes about 2 tenths of a mile past our home. The tech was really peeved at that and said, and I quote..."The only way your service will ever reach 3.0M is if you pick your house up and move it 1.6 miles down the road."....There are 45 homes on the main road between us and the RT with several spurs containing several homes served by the RT and that is just in our direction. In talking with people in the neighborhood it seems that bout 90% Of the residents out here have DSL service subscribed at 1.5 or better. The RT in question serves 4 other directions with probably at least as many homes or more in the other direction and the service is really "wishy-washy"...For a few days it will run at 80-90% of advertised speeds, then for a couple days it will run at 20% of ad speeds. When you call, its always "something at your home" I think they are trying to serve too large of an area from the RT and need to subdivide the area again. Thoughts?

If true you should have better speeds by end of 2015, probably on 4G LTE.

I had AT&T cell service for a week and dropped it bc I couldn't even receive text messages at my address. I need Internet sooner than 2015. Trust me, if anyone who currently has internet were completely disconnected from both phone and wired connections (such as AT&T execs, managers, etc.) this would already be handled. I want a field tech from my area to see this and get me in contact with someone who can fix this issue. "Aww but it will cost is money"-well this bs is costing me dearly in advancing not only my degree path, but my sanity. I'm tired of the run around and excuses.
