FUD?

I have yet to see any compelling evidence that any of this is true. It's all just been rumors and "leaked info". Probably FUD.

I agree until someone has actual PROOF I call bullshit.

Agree. I guess its fun to just yell "DRM" in a room full of gamers just to see the panic.

Not FUD they made the changes necessary with the activation tech they develop from Windows XP,Vista,7,8/Office 2007-2010

Try installing Win7 or 8 on another machine without having to CALL Microsoft.

They will activate you're Retail Full Product Purchase up to 5 machines provided you have uninstall the previous version, good luck after that

if it's the OEM Version good look if you're MB got fried, they will require you to PÄY again for you're Win7 Copy even if it's the second activation.

The change the language of the License to SAY Activations instead of computers, so now they offer activations, so if you change the Motherboard, you have to pay again even a change in the BIOS CHIP can trip the activation.

And it's worst in Win8,

Windows 8 takes it up a notch.

It clearly states you buy a one off license. You buy a new PC, you need a new license, even if you uninstall it and destroy the original PC.... it will never install again.

It's tied to your original install and you can't transfer it.

That isn't any different than a Windows 7 OEM license. If you buy a new PC with Windows 8 on it, its tied to the hardware. If you buy a Windows 8 license, you can transfer it to any PC that you want so long as you remove the original copy.

My understanding is that it does take it up a notch. It's not the OEM copy that comes with the machine. The actual Windows 8 you pay for and download (or get the DVD) will tie itself to the first machine it's installed on, and that's the install you get. No future installs to a different machine. Much like an OEM except it's the retail version.

I'll check into this, I could be wrong.

I will say you are wrong. I have a copy of windows 8 I have successfully installed on 3 different pieces of hardware. Not at the same time mind you, and i had to call one time to get the activation to work, but the point is that it is still legal to buy a full version copy of Windows 8 and install it where you want. So long as it is only installed on one PC, you are fine.

Yes, I checked. Indeed the stipulations are only for OEM builder editions.

You can still buy a "retail" version that if you remove it from an old machine you can install it on a new machine.

I'm unclear whether you have to actually confirm with MS the uninstall of the old version.

I had to the 3rd time I moved the OS from one piece of hardware to another. The 2nd time it just let me install it without an issue.
