My Company Found Out

Well, some how where I am working they found out I was looking for new work. They are countering offering, but I am do not even have an alternative job yet. What should I do? I don't have time for this and rather just focus at working at my job.

If you're willing to stay take the counter offer.
If it's not attractive enough, keep looking. Or try making a counter offer of your own more beneficial to your interests.
They just might go with it if they want you bad enough.

Why are you looking to leave?

If it's only about money, then take the highest offer. Done.

If it's about advancement opportunities, working conditions, benefits, etc., then talk about that with your current employer. They may be willing to accommodate you.

The fact that they are counter offering means you are valuable enough to make them willing to give you something to stay. That's an enviable position in this economy. Work it to your advantage.

You can't make a solid decision until you have two complete offers. Either way you end up with more than you have now.

Good luck!

I'd take the posted advice for either accepting the offer or possibly trying to negotiate something a little better. If you're looking to leave because you don't like working there then I'd do that and continue looking for another job.

Take the counter offer and keep looking.

Always be very careful of counter offers. It can be genuine, or it can be the company's way to keep you around until theyu can replace you on their time table.

I'm not sure what the issue is as you don't really explain much. Where you only looking for another job because your current pay was too low or do you really hate it where you are now? By how much to both those questions. Without knowing details how can anyone even start t give you a good opinion?

If you took the raise, kept working and then chose to either stop or continue to work, how would that be a bad thing?

If you are working in any kind of a corporate environment, the only reason why a company makes a counter-offer to keep you on board is to keep them on long enough for them to replace you.

It takes months to post/interview and find a good candidate to fill a spot, especially with any kind of skill set.

You've made a huge mistake of telling others that you're looking to leave. That's why they're counter-offering. Everything that you said to the various people you told.... as well as everything you didn't say, all got back to HR, the management, etc. Everyone and everyone who can touch your career at that company knows that you are to be replaced and that they only need you there long enough to fuck YOU over rather than having themselves fucked over.

You're in a bad situation by talking.

If you take the counter, you need to continue to look. You're now on borrowed time. If you take the counter and leave, you've probably jacked yourself for future references.

If you refuse the offer, they may just push you out the door, or step up their time table and hire someone sooner. Look for job postings for duties similar to yours or even more obvious, someone you'll mentor.

You really have no choice now but to take this other job.

I would say this depends on the company. Perhaps when they found out they determined he was being underpaid.

It's not all that different than taking a counter offer with a job on the table. I've done that a couple of times and it's only been a positive outcome for me and only strengthened my existing position.

How large was the company where you were at? My guess is the smaller the company, the more I would lean toward sticking around. The larger the company, the more likely they are to just screw you in the end on this.

What percentage is that increase? To some people $10,000 is a lot of money to others it isn't worth the hassle to switch. Money isn't everything.

It sounds like you are valued where you are. If you want to stay make sure you indicate as such and that the raise helps you give a long term commitment. You can only do this once per employer.

One word of caution, it's not always fun to be priced out of the market if you do want to leave.

They just told me they are going to pause me becoming permit and train me because a co-worker is leaving at the same time. They want to make sure I will stay first. So. after my interview next week I will make the determination. I do not like leaving my employer out in the dark.

Nope it is my first language. IT guys do not need to learn to spell or have good grammar.

Everyone needs to learn to spell and have decent grammar - these kinds of things show that you are a professional and command a reasonable wage.
