Of course the easy way around this is to sell "activation keys" for used games.
Meaning you buy a used game and want to play it, pony up 5 to 10 bucks for a key to activate the game.
IMO, it's a shit thing to do, but it's a lot better then just blocking used games outright.

Mullica Hill, NJ | well even then if you pay 25 bucks for the game(CD plus the new activation code for $5) that is still less than half of the 60 bucks the game cost originally.
I agree it would be a shit thing to do but in the long term the best business decision for the most profit results from throwing the customer a bone, not taking the whole box of bones away.

I read an article that suggested that's exactly where the XBOX may be headed. They further suggested that the price of used discs would then drop because folks would balk at paying half price for a used disc which still requires them paying for a $10 activation. In the end the thing that changes is the used game store gets screwed and MS and the game vendor get a cut of the market. The customer probably still ends with a used and possibly dated game for half price or less. Oh I suppose customers who sell used games to the stores will get less so they'll get screwed too. |

They may have a different option for rental games, as I think they get part of the rental fee, not sure though.

So how would X box tell that a disk is a rental vs a used disk?
