| [DTA] Comcast No-Longer shipping DTA Boxes? After I failed to place 2 orders for DTA boxes. Two agents told me the DTA boxes were ordered. The second supervisor tells me Comcast is no longer shipping DTA boxes and my only option is to have a boxed shipped for 8$ a month.
I'm not paying 8$ a month extra per box. Very tempted to cut the cord.
Have you guys had this problem? |

Unfortunately, Comcast phone support could not manage to get it activated last night. It is a Comcast-labeled Cisco DTA30 unit and they said the system wouldn't accept it!
When I had tried the automated Activation-by-Phone system, it said the DTA's serial number would start with a "P" (for Pace?) or a "T" (for Thomson/Technicolor?), while the one for the Cisco unit started with a "C." The system would not accept it and then transferred me to a CSA.
I thought this was strange, but maybe the Cisco-made units are not supposed to be used in this region and was shipped to me by mistake?
Anyway, they are sending me another (non-Cisco) DTA and it should arrive tomorrow now. |

DTAs are very much available and being shipped EVERYDAY. Even handed out over the counter. They are $1.99 a piece, unless you're on limited cable but they are given out.

DTA's will work in any region regardless of the headend. Pace, Motorola, Thomson and Cisco DTAs float around every system. It's the addressable cable boxes that shouldn't cross markets. |

Yes, I believe all Comcast DTAs are "universal" DTAs (uDTAs) so that they can be used in either Motorola or SA/Cisco systems.
I'm in an SA/Cisco area, so it was strange that this Cisco DTA could not be associated with my account. My only guess is that it may be intended for use outside this ("Freedom") region. |

I'll try to sort it out with a local guy. |

I do NOT think that's necessarily true; CC was sending out lots of (non) uDTA's before they came to fruition. So while this may be true for DTA's CC newly acquired, this doesn't apply for all those (refurbed) DTA's being redeployed to subs... |

As you said, Comcast originally deployed DTAs that were designed for use only on Motorola-based systems, but later on (back in 2010), uDTAs were developed that allowed their use also in SA/Cisco-based systems: »www.lightreading.com/cable-tv-ch···40123382
BTW - I received my replacement DTA today, a Thomson (now Technicolor) model DCI105COM1. I was able to activate that one with no problems! |
