 | [CA] Speedtest Upload shows 20Mb, others show 3Mb. Earlier this week the internet, tv, and phone all went out in my home. Nothing was working after countless resets and power cycles. We had a Cox technician come out and fix the problem and everything started working again. When I go to test the internet and check the channels I see I have now have 4 channel upstream bonding instead of 1. So I check SpeedTest and it shows 20mb up instead of the usual 5Mb. I am super happy.
Today however, when I go to stream on twitch.tv with a bitrate of 3000 or 3Mb, I get constant drops. I start testing other sites and see I am only getting around 3Mb upload on those tests while Speedtest still shows 20Mb.
I have a Surfboard SB6121 Modem and a Cisco E2000 router.
If anybody knows who to fix this or what I can do please let me know. I called support but they gave me the usual "power cycle and delete browser cache"... |

 | Upstream bonding is just coming online this week across north county, I would wait it out until early next week to see if it doesn't straighten out. They haven't locked down the upload speeds yet so it definitely looks like they're still working on it. |

Also, what are you signal levels? I assume you know how since you seem to know how many upstream channels you have.
Last, do the symptoms go away when you bypass the router? |

 | Optimus, sadly, I was just heading home from class when he called to say he would be there in ten minutes, I rushed home to find him sitting in his car, luckily he waited for me. He said he had already gone ahead and "fixed a problem" he found outside. I don't know if this was a problem in my COX box on the side of the house or if it was a problem with the lines coming to my house.
Once inside my home, we turned on the tv and it still showed no picture of any channel, checked the back room tv, same.
We plug in the modem it boots fine, then router and it boots fine too. I head to go check the internet on my computer and he heads to the front to check the tv again now that the internet is up. TV is working now, and so he heads off.
I just tested bypassing the router and i got the same speeds from speedtest at 20 up. Testmy.net gave me 3 up, same as with the router. I also removed the one splitter coming from the wall to the modem, and received the same numbers.
Here are my signals.

 | reply to Bystander Speedtest is unreliable. Use »speedof.me for a more accurate result. I speedtest 15-20Mb upload too but in reality it's 3Mb. |
|
 | For what it's worth, I get the same speeds on speedtest.net as I do on speedof.me. |

Optimus2357Premium join:2010-11-21 West Warwick, RI kudos:1 | reply to Bystander Well your signal levels look good. Nothing obvious there, though I'm sure one of the Cox people could see more. As for testing, what do you have it to compare to? Like when you did a Speed test before the problem, what did you get? What speeds do you pay for? Also, slow upload wouldn't cause a issue downloading a stream. 600 uncorrectables' in too short a time frame might though. How fast does that number increase? |

 | reply to Bystander The fact of the matter is that you will receive different results from different speedtest sites.
The speed you get has to do with MANY factors, including the bandwidth available to the speedtest site/server, the distance it's going, routing, other internet traffic, etc. etc. etc.
That speedof.me site said my sustained download was 28Mbps. Right after that I downloaded a 2.4GB file from Microsoft.com and got a sustained download of 51Mbps. Maxed out my connection.
So, like anything, take any speedtest with a grain of salt. Just with the different sites, different servers on the same sites will give you different results. -- ~~Chris~~
