@suddenlink.net

New Millenicom customer.

I finally decided to pull the trigger on the Mifi device by Millenicom. I received it yesterday and fired it up.

I'm in NE Texas and with 2 bars or signal on the device throughout the house, my speedtest.net results were on average about 8Mb down, 3Mb up with ping around 85 or so. I am very happy with that as its much faster than my HughesNet satellite. I will be testing over the next several days to try and improve signal and see if it boosts speeds as well.

I too will need to connect wired devices and was thinking of keeping my current router, a TP-Link router with 3 hardwired devices on it and using my little Edimax BR-6258n micro router as a bridge between the Mifi and the TP-Link. The Edimax supports WISP (Wireless ISP) so I think I can make the connection work.

I think I would connect the Edimax to the Mifi using WISP function and then connect the TP-Link on the LAN port of the Edimax and have the TP-Link serve as DHCP for my devices. I'll play around with it and post an update.

I will probably be cancelling my HN satellite at the end of the monthly cycle. The speed has been alright with the HN but the ping is so terrible my devices time-out too much. I have been off-contract with them for a while and have finally a solution to replace them with. Very happy with the Millenicom service so far.

Questions:

1. How often is the data usage updated on my account page at the Millenicom site? Daily? Hourly?

2. How can I keep a better track of data usage myself without going through the Millenicom website?

3. What is the fee for overages on the 20GB plan? Is there overages or do you hit a wall until the next cycle begins?

Thanks.

@suddenlink.net

I also wanted to ask, I purchased this antenna for my TP-Link router a while back.

Can this antenna be connected to the Mifi say mounted higher up like in the attic to increase the signal strength or is that antenna completely different from what the Mifi is compatible with?

Thanks again.

Welcome aboard Google123.

Your usage field in the Members Center updates on the first Monday of each week and you can email usage@millenicom.com if you need it before then.

There are never overage fees. If you go over consistently (or egregiously) they'll have you purchase a second account.

No, the antenna port on the MiFi is for improving the signal in the 700 Mhz band. The antenna you have is for 2.4 wiFi

keep in mind that usage ( via Millenicom website) is only updated on Mondays ... meaning you have a whole week of usage that is not reported until the next Monday. That can be quite significant.

For whatever reason Millenicom seems to be incapable of providing an easy/accurate way to report usage. Opening an account with Verizon using the 4620's phone number seems to be the best way to obtain timely usage.

Think they have "fixed" that. Just received a new Millenicom 4620le and the MDN now shows as "unavailable". Unless you know how to find it?

Assuming you are referring to the MDN on the device and not your account profile...

Log into the admin page via the web browser 192.168.1.1 once you are logged in click on Advanced/Diagnostics and it will show all but the ESN.

If it doesn't show then you may need to reset it.

Modem

MEID

Phone Number (MDN)
484xxxxxxx
FW Version
3.20.11
SIM Status
SIM Ready
ICCID

MIN(MSID)
484xxxxxxx

The ESN is similiar to the IMEI located underneath the battery if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for the tip m_law. I haven't reset yet, but right now the MDN is showing all 0s on the diagnostics page. I'll reset and check again when I have time. Yes, I know, save my settings first!

The MDN will show on the LCD of the device as well under the "info" menu option.

This may help.

100% spot-on! Thanks again m_law. After reset MDN now shows up as you said. Interesting that the number 484-7xx-xxxx reports the company as Atx Telecommunications Services, Ltd, Honey Brook, PA. Long ways from Portland, OR.

For sure, looks as if God isn't the only one that works in mysterious ways huh?

Are you referring to the MDN that is assigned to your device? I've done those reverse number searches and it will list the area the number originates from and I assume the initial assigned company it was ported from.

Kind of like how the MSID's are assigned to the carrier and stay theirs so if I'm not mistaken are never ported to others.

Most likely it's due to Millenicom requiring such a large amount of account numbers they were chosen by the area with the most available to attempt keeping them grouped together as much as possible instead of having them scattered all over.

If this is the Verizon mifi 20g plan, you can register an account on »wizard.verizonwireless.com/setup···&act=reg and then track your usage daily. It doesn't charge you or affect your relationship with Millenicom.

I check my usage especially near the end of the month if I want to do any downloading.

BTW - thanks for the hint on the Edimax. I have a brand spanking new TPLink router I got for free and was hoping to find a way to use it rather than shell out for expensive full featured router that also supports wifi as WAN. Looks like it might work.

A happy customer of Millenicom.com - so far.
