| Re-manufactured Ink Cartridges I'm looking for recommendations for online retailers selling re-manufactured ink cartridges.
Things I'm concerned about:
•Any issues with the printer recognizing the cartridge? •How is the consistency concerning actual amount of ink compared to OEM? •Have you had any leak? •Price? •Shipping options & cost? •Guarantees? •Return policy?
Thanks! -- In God we trust; all others bring data!

| It would depend on the printer and cartridge.
If you are looking for beautiful photos, then use OEM. If you are looking for just everyday printing, then there are more choices. I like SwiftInk. I've also bought on Amazon. I've bought off ebay.
1. Depended on the printer and cartidge. I've had trouble with OEM and cheaper options. Depended on the printer and cartridge. 2. If you require OEM ink, then buy that. 3. I've had 1 leak with an OEM cartridge. Had to trash the printer. 4. about the same for shipping. 5. lol! 6. lol! -- Damn spy drones! They are interfering with my sun spots.

| reply to Johkal Have you considered refilling yourself? Very easy to do and very inexpensive.
Process can be messy if you don't do it correctly but normally it is a clean operation. I put down newspapers and do it in the kitchen sink. -- The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits. |

| reply to Johkal Reman are a big no in my book. Think about it this way - do you get your oil changed and re-use the old filter? Ink cartridges are pretty much meant for one use. When I ran a computer shop I had several people bring ruined printers in because the reman cartridge leaked all over the printer. It's just not worth taking the chance. -- Today I saw something that reminded me of you. But dont worry, I flushed and everything went back to normal. |
|
 | reply to Johkal Amazon LD reman ink. very cheap and so far no issues. For the price, even if 1 had issues, I would toss it and buy again. I get ink for a Canon photo printer at around 6 bucks a pop. 4x6 and 5x7 pictures come out just fine. |

| reply to Johkal HP printers seem to hate anything but new cartridges. But even those they sometimes don't like. Just MHO. At work we have gone through 3 HP ink jet printers and the ink jet Brother and laser Brother are still going strong through 8 years. I finally replaced the last HP with a Brother and it's not broken yet.

These are the last ones I bought. I went through a set of 10 the year before. The colors seem good and don't run. No problem with leaks or the printer not recognizing the cartridge.
But again, you have an HP. -- Damn spy drones! They are interfering with my sun spots.

| Your mileage may vary with HP. I used to have an HP DeskJet 710C (yeap, from 1999) until two years ago and it worked fine with remanufactured cartridges. Never had a problem with them. Tried to use refilled cartridges twice and the printer did not accept one of them (lost a few bucks there) and the second time the cartridge (an original HP one) was allegedly damaged and did not pass some sort of test they did (at Walgreens) after the refill. I didn't have to pay that one. |

 | reply to Johkal Until today I had good luck with CompAndSave carts. Just now popped two duds in a row into my HP 2575. They guarantee the carts, but not return shipping. So no more CompAndSave for me.
Just now ordered a 4 pack from the ebay seller that Rojo recommended. Dirt cheap, so if they work, thanks Rojo! |

Yeah that is what I was going to say HP do chip their carts... so unless you refill them long before drained... or re-manufactured that way (unlikely) could be very problematic.
Not that there aren't others BUT HP is where I would say go true HP or new as 3rd party as OEM replacement.
Think the patent is done now over 30 yrs.. but not the need for chipping...for the carts, but the printers still want to see it or not work well, interesting way around a patent expiration. --

LazManPremium join:2003-03-26 canada | reply to Johkal Epson is also very problematic with refilled/reman'd cartridges.
I've seen several high-end Epson photo printers destroyed with refilled cartridges.
OEM ink is pricey, sure; but cheaper then replacing my printer... So I use OEM... It's worth it to me. |

| reply to Johkal My 1st and last experience with re-manufactured cartridges was a number of years ago purchasing from a local store with a good reputation. The 1st cartridge was not recognized & wouldn't work (HP printer) & the 2nd one leaked. It took me quite some doing to clean the printer. The dealer was great with his policies.
Once bitten, I've stayed away. Considering it again, this is why I value all of your feedback. -- In God we trust; all others bring data!

2 edits | reply to Johkal I think my next printer will be a Brother laser and/or maybe a Brother inkjet. Overall, would I have better luck with non-OEM toner and ink with Brother printers than I would with the others?
I have an HP Photosmart C7280 that's had a couple issues (had to replace the power brick and had a friend replace some bad capacitors on the mainboard), but I've had good luck with some non-OEM cartridges I got off of Amazon almost 2 years ago and still have a set of unused carts... I'll keep this HP till I no longer have any luck with the non-OEM cartridges.
EDIT: I got these cartridges. I got my black cartridge from LD Products (and still have an extra... still have about 40-50% left after 2 years!)
Luckily, I haven't had any problems with ink drying up on my C7280 like I did on my previous printer, an HP Photosmart P1000 (still in my attic). |
