skohly join:2009-08-19 Township Of Washington, NJ | Verizon email settings My guess this has been covered here already but I can't seem to find it. I got an email telling me I need to change my email settings to new incoming and outgoing server. I use Thunderbird and it's not clear what to do in that. Any help would be appreciated |

Here's the page from Mozilla explaining how to do it:

If you have an A/V program (e.g. Avast) that does SSL, then that's where you would set the protocols for the servers - letting it handle the SSL work rather than doing it in the email client.
I'm kinda old school and have been using Eudora forever. I find it less complicated than T'bird...
Speaking of which, has anyone noticed that V's email servers have been a little wonky the past couple of days? I keep getting disconnects and timeouts on the new ones. -- Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected. -- Red Buttons |

 | reply to skohly Hey, is this referencing the email that Verizon is changing to a POP.verizon.net?
Are these legit? I mean, two clients got them (they HAD DSL and now on Fios) and asked me what to do. I've not received this notice:
I tried it on my email and it doesn't work (hangs at SMTP server...).
I wonder if this is ONLY for DSL subs. And why go backward (POP is old, IMAP is preferred...) I can see securing with SSL and other port but... -- Splat |

Yes, they are legit. V* isn't too awfully consistent about who gets what notification.
I got one to my primary account, one to another sub-account and none to two other sub-accounts.
However, my spousal unit received three announcements, yesterday, to her sub-account - that after one last week.
Incoming.verizon.net is now pop.verizon.net Outgoing.verizon.net is now smtp.verizon.net
They work for all my FiOS based email accounts here.
The old server designations seem to still work but who knows for how long. -- Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected. -- Red Buttons |

I think that is a key statement that many people are ignoring. Verizon seems to pretty much always phase things in areas or small groups at a time, never the entire network (internet and/or TV) at a time. So for this change they apparently have set up new server definitions and are gradually migrating people to the new setup. Eventually the old definitions will no longer work. How long will it take? Probably someone in Verizon knows, but they are apparently keeping it a secret, my guess would be 3 to 6 months, but that is all it is, a guess. And if people ignore the instructions to change, they are going to wake up one day with no email service at all, and complain once again.
FWIW, I made the change probably a month or more ago, two Windows 7 systems, one XP system, and one Android smartphone, and all work just fine with the new definitions. -- Justin Verizon FiOS TV and Internet Motorola QIP7232 HD DVR Motorola QIP 7100-P2 Sony KDL-V40XBR1 |

 | I get hardly any spam at all with my Verizon account, which has been active for five years or more. I get quite a bit with my Google and Microsoft email accounts but almost all of it gets dumped into the junk mail folder. |
