arkayem join:2013-01-26 Richmond Hill, GA 1 edit | [DSL] Netgear 7550 problems I have a 3 MB/S DSL line and use a Frontier supplied Netgear 7550 ADSL2 modem.
People in my family have three iPads, a Mac PC, an ip Camera, and a Samsung TV that all connect solidly and remain connected.
But I have a nearly new Dell laptop running Windows 7 that works on every other WiFi network I've ever tried, but not this one. I can get it to work for a short time on this network only if I reboot the 7550.
I have upgraded all the drivers in my laptop to the latest versions.
My laptop works solidly at my home using a Netgear Wireless Router connected to a simple DSL modem.
What am I missing? What can I do to make my laptop connect and stay connected?
Thanks,
Russ |

Thanks,

I know what my 'Frontier credentials' are to log on to their network using the 7550 in gateway mode.
However, Frontier says they don't support or even know if a bridge mode exists on the 7550. And of course, there is no manual.
How do I put the 7550 in bridge mode? What are the steps?
What's PPPoE and PPPoA? Is this a mode I choose inside the 7550?
Thanks,

 | reply to arkayem If your computer will connect to the wireless modem and not the 7550 there must be an issue with the encyrption method. They are basically the same equipment as far as the OSI layers go. The firmware is differenet because one has ADSL capabilities obviously. If you wish to connect with the wireless router instead of the 7550 modem all you have to go is turn off the wireless in the 7550. Once the wireless is off in the firmware you can connect the wireless router of your choosing to the modem in either port 2,3, or 4. It is easier to setup in this configuration then it is to go through the bridging process and hope that your wireless modem will authenticate with your PPPoE username and password.
I hope this helps. |

I have noticed that even when I connect my laptop to the 7550 using an ethernet cable that it still will not connect reliably to the internet. It will connect to the internet after I reboot the 7550, but after a few minutes, it drops this connection.
As I mentioned before: My laptop connects reliably to every other network I have ever tried!
So, why would my iPad and MacBook both connect reliably to the 7550 when my laptop will not? Just doesn't make sense to me!
Thanks for your comments. |
