Re: [Cable] Rogers ATPIA - Live - BETA - March 22nd, 2013

Once it's migrated I'm not 100% sure how it will work however I am sure that we will simply be able to place change of service orders and we will no longer need beta as the system functionality will be live

I didn't know when I made this up last night... Thanks for catching that, I made a change for the other 8 Channel modems.

Thanks Andre!

Pine Ridge(Oshawa)

Is the Oshawa in brackets just to help identify the Pine Ridge area, or is only Oshawa within Pine Ridge service area in the beta?

I'm a current Rogers Cable TV/Internet customer in Whitby (part of the Pine Ridge service area) and I am interested in helping out with the beta. Would I qualify to be a beta subscriber?

Not sure exactly why it's written that way but if you have Rogers now... We can service you.

Should be blazing fast... Very few users alone on a 10gig link until next week when Guelph gets migrated over. (That will also free up some capacity on disaggregated TPIA also)

What about ordering the 150/10 in an upgraded area if we don't care about getting the maximum download speeds available? I want the faster 10mbit uploads with that tier but don't yet want to buy another modem to get 8x4 vs 4x4 (which i have now).

I don't understand the question. Are you asking if there is a way to get more upload?

aereolis is asking the inevitable question, "can you make an exception for me on the modem requirements." They want to use a SB6120 on 150/10 service.

I realized my asking the question was going to create this kind of debate just after asking it--which puts my question into the "just stirring up trouble" category.. I have a feeling somebody else would have asked it anyway though.

given 38mpbs per channel 4x 38 is 144 MBPS max no? and thats providing your using all your qams alone, realistically never going to happen Sounds like docsis 2 modem on a 28/1 package type Symptoms would occur to me.

Yep that's correct. I fully well understand that, but at any given time i'm maybe only using 1 mbit, and if my son is watching netflix 3 mbit if i'm watching super netflix hd maybe 12. Besides I just want to know *if*, I don't know if i actually will order that package, plus my area can't decide if it's going to be upgraded or not. I had qam 64 on my modem when i first moved in, and now it's down to qam16 for some reason.

So I am on 18mbps/512kbps cable internet, can I upgrade to the 25mbps/2mbps right now? It is the same price.

I have DCM 476 modem already.

And by beta, does it mean that the internet will be unstable?

if you have cable already, I believe that means that you are NOT in an area that's eligible at all for this beta

I haven't heard anything back yet, did my request that was emailed to cable_beta@teksavvy.com get to someone? No rush, just curious since others seem to have had movement already

Here is the list of dates for availability of 25/2 (and 35/3, 45/4, 150/10) service in different areas:

No, it doesn't mean it *will be* unstable, but that by introducing limited numbers on the beta any problems can be reported early to get something done before each head end is brought on line.

If you're an area that is already serviced by TekSavvy Cable service, you can't sign for the current APOI beta. That's for the new years they lit up in. It believe its more of a beta for all the administrative work since juggling POI and APOI packages starting this week.

Details of what areas get migrated when are here:

Yes the next 5 months will be very interesting as each POI listed moves over. The load balancing across the various backhauls is going to fluctuate so much, we might see some periods of really awesome speeds and some where the links get a little bit crowded. It sure will be a good amount of work for Gabe and crew.

From my understanding to date it sounds like the ATPIA is serviced by 2x10gig links. I assume that the existing 10gig links will be moved over to the ATPIA once the load on these ceases to exist.

as migration happens.. it will only help if anything on the TPIA legacy stuff...

when we're done we'll have something like 18-20x 10gig backhaul links then the TPIA legacy stuff will be decommissioned. it's all new install.

Thanks for the extra details Marc. I definitely agree that network capacity freeing up during the transition should make dis-agg POIs super speedy

I've got some waiting though here in Kitchener. I sure hope the timetable doesn't slip because it looks like it could cascade, or is it a different team at each POI that handles the work? I'm curious to know if one POI takes a few days longer to migrate does it affect the timetable for the next POI in line.

I'll second the "waiting in Kitchener" Another 1-2Mbps upload will make all the difference.
