ADSL2+ pricing logic

I currently have the 6.0/768 DHCP package.

I pay $35/month (non-contract).

I'm happy with that price/performance but I wouldn't mind faster speeds.

So I looked at dslextreme's faster offerings which include the ADSL2+ packages.

Next step up is ADSL2+ 8.0/1.0 for $110/month.

So I'll be getting 33% more download bandwidth for a cost of 314% more per month.

What sort of illogic is this?

Even a cost increase of 100% more for 33% more bandwidth is nonsense.

I just want to understand the pricing logic of the ADSL2+ packages.

It's not a linear progression, certainly. The ADSL2+ service you're seeing is being offered via Megapath (previously Covad), rather than AT&T, so the cost is unfortunately considerably greater for those circuits.
