[Signals] New Zoom 5241J modem: are these levels good?I went from a SB5100 to this 5341J. Speeds seem OK, I'm still on the 12/2 Performance plan. But when I pull up the stats on the modem I see the very high number of "uncorrectables" compared to the "correctables". Is that normal? Are there signal issues I don't know about? I do notice when I'm watching any streaming video, like from Youtube, Facebook, etc. that it is always very choppy and lots of pausing for buffering. The modem is connected to a Linksys E3000 running TomatoUSB (Shibby). |

Your signal levels are good. 'Uncorrectables" shouldn't be higher than "correctables". |

You can't fix it. If you have no connection issues, ignore it. If you see connection issues, you would need to call Comcast to address what is causing the issue & see if it's a correlation with your uncorrectables adding up. |

unfortunately that modem doesn't show total unerrorred codewords passed. Depending on when you last restarted the modem you could be well in to the billions on each channel, which would make those numbers for correctable/uncorrectable fairly inconsequential in the big picture. If it works fine, I wouldn't worry about it |

You can also call CC support and get your upstream dB and SNR levels to the CMTS. They are right though; a lot of times there isn't much you can do. I was getting uncorrectibles a lot for awhile and other strange happenings and then my connection went down for about a day (On the CC site it said they were working on it). When it came back up I had no issues so they often find and fix things on their own (Or maybe someone else had issues who knows). That's one of the downsides to a 'contested node/shared connection' type network that HFC has. |

I always assumed they were for the downstream. What are your thoughts? |

probably hit 10's to 100 million already the numbers pile up fast In 22 hours I'm seeing 4 billion on each of 4 channels just from some light surfing a forum reading. If you hit the video or download hard the totals are just a blur. ( I don't actually have a real time view but know from earlier tests they accrue very quickly |

Probably but you can never have too much data With diagnosing technology, I gave up on the logical approach a long time ago; I can fix things better by being an unpredictable madman. That's the only way to defeat the machines. |
