3 edits | How to request DSL Hello all, I'm moving to a house that Centrylink does not offer DSL too. However, there is DSL service within a couple thousand feet of me (in several directions, up to 3mbps). Of the times that I have called, I have got the response of "the equipment in you area does not offer DSL, but we can take your request", "you live to far, but we can send a tech out to your house the check the signal level" (that lady at the local office would not return my phone call), and the guy next door called to request it as well and got the response "we offer 6mbps DSL at your address".
Now the NC state broadband map lists my address as having DSL with Centrylink there, and the map manager even confirmed that Centrylink offered service there per their map submission. Centrylink's own web map just comes up an error page.
Is there a better method of getting them to run DSL service to my house? My street has seven 300k+ houses and the adjacent street has many more houses as well. Anyone in particular I can talk to? I'm more than willing to use business class DSL if that will make any difference.
Address is xxxxx White Horse Dr. Shawboro, NC 27973 |

I told it to continue and I got this »shop.centurylink.com/MasterWebPo···et=true#

 | reply to jsncrso The problem is the reps are on commission AND the information concerning the terminal that feeds your house is not populated/incorrectly populated.
The result is the rep thinks since you cannot get DSL according to what their computer screen tells me, therefore you're wasting their time, end of subject.
Would be nice the CTL instead of buying up other companies would spend their money on in house training in customer service. When the rep sits a thousand miles away I'd think the customer has a little better idea of whats going on.
Try sending an email to TalkToUs@Centurylink.com |

 | reply to Irish Shark Yup, if you enter in any address on that road (or several addresses on the adjacent road, N. Gregory Rd), you get the same thing.
Here is the funny part, enter in the lot next door to me (a corner lot) at 409 N Gregory Rd. And then enter the lot across the street from that one, 426 N Gregory Rd. This is why I have such a hard time believing what the lady tells me on the phone if they are using the exact same database, which is obviously screwed up.
JustDSL, I'll try that e-mail route. I was hoping in in-office visit would help out more (they told me they will look into it and call me back), but since they won't call me back, that's the problem. I was hoping maybe by calling the business customer line (I'm willing to pay the price for business DSL) they they would be inclined to look into things more but I guess not. |

Who cares if the DB is screwed-up? It will come out in the wash.
That talk to us thing is about as useless as CL's DB. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |

1 edit | reply to jsncrso call until they get out there to test your signal levels! even 1.5mb dsl is better than dialup.
in 2005 in my old small town(7k pop at the time), had no cable internet, wisp, or dsl. it was a mid to lower-high class town, about 20miles from the urban expansion from columbus.
i put together a petition for people that wanted dsl, and had them state how long they would sign a contract for. got a good amount of signatures, and sent it into embarq/centurylink. i also emailed it to any ceo/higher up person i could find. called any phone numbers i could find for higher ups about this petition. about six months after that we were wired up! |

 | reply to jsncrso This will sound like a lie but it really happened. At my previous address I went through your same ordeal. What finally landed me dsl was a chance encounter with a uniformed repair tech at a Chinese restaurant. I asked him if DSL was technically possible at my address and he said it should be because something was nearby and the reps just didn't know it or didn't care to look into it very much. So a week later he came to my house at the beginning of his shift. He then a made a couple phone calls and we had to take turns talking to people. After about an hour he said I now have DSL. A few days later i got a dsl modem in the mail and that was the end of dial up for me. It was only 1.5Mbps though. |

| I had a simlier problum to. So i was looking for dsl providers at my address and i calld up century link, because my neighbor and others down the street have century link 3 mbps dsl, they kept telling me "We do not have the equipment in your area" And they were not willing to do anything. So i called up Frontier which got me dsl service, 3 mbps down just like century link,BUT the twist is when the tech came to install my service, i had 2 telephone poles in my yard (Not electric poles,my phone lines are under ground) He said one of those poles belonged to century link, and the person that lived in this house before said they had embarq, i have never called century link about this,i guess century link just dident care and dident want me as a customor |

| reply to jsncrso I work for CenturyLink and looked at our availability, and it seems to be an issue with the wiring that serves you. If you are on N. Gregory going towards Shortcut Rd, the last houst to be able to get service is 245 N. Gregory. All of S Gregory has it from the time you cross Shortcust Rd. There are also a few houses west/southwest of the intersection of Shortcut and Gregory that can not get it. It appears as though it would be a distance issue, based on the way speeds are decreasing towards white horse rd. --Sorry :-( |
