PToN join:2001-10-04 Houston, TX | Win7x64 default gateway issues. Hello,
So i've deployed a few Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64Bit machines and i've noticed that some of them are experiencing issues with the default gateway.
They seem to get an IP from the DHCP server, but when issuing "ipconfig" you see that the default gateway is empty. A renew just comes back saying that the machine was unable to contact the DHCP.
It eventually goes away, i have to restart several times or enable and disable the device. I have uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it, but that didnt fix the problem.
I am just wondering if anyone has seen this before?
Thanks. |

since you said you reinstalled the driver, it sounds like a TCP/IP stack issue... but usually that is reinstalled along with the driver... what is the brand of NIC and computer? |

I did notice when I installed a quad nic in my home computer that if a nic has an IP (even if the nic is disabled) it can prevent an active nic from getting the IP)
In my case I set a DHCP reservation on my DHCP server and updated it to the new nic that I wanted to get that IP, but the no longer connected nic hadn't been given the ipconfig /release command and wouldn't get affected by it till it was active again.
The solution was to reconnect the on-board nit to the network then issue ipconfig /release then disable it and move on.
so if you didn't release the IP before imaging it it could have an effect. -- »www.change.org/petitions/create-···imcity-4 |

Well i installed the OS in a VM, loaded all the drivers with pnputil.exe, syspreped the machine and uploaded the image. Then deployed the captured image. |

Dunno why only 2 out of 6 had the problem.
Thanks. |

 | reply to PToN Do you have multiple DHCP servers? If you do, make sure all of them have the scope properly configured. Sometimes someone makes a change, doesn't notice the absent default GW and... well, I'm sure you can figure the rest |

 | reply to PToN ...Pull up wireshark and see what was coming from the DHCP offer packet.
